incoming, incoming!

Welcome and good luck with your chickeneering! Post some pics of your arrivals, we love to see them. I loved the story of the chicken from 9th grade that scratched to come in at night. I have a dog that does that.

Here they are! Two days old, arrived this morning, no names yet.

Partridge Rock, the smallest and sassiest. She leaps, jumps, and runs! She's always the first to run to my fingers when I reach into the brooder.

Speckled Sussex, the biggest of the bunch. (She MIGHT be the Welsummer, but I'm pretty sure I've got them sorted out now.

Since your chicks like to romp thru their water, it's a very good idea to keep the level low, and put some clean marbles or glass pebbles in the water bowl. Chicks can fall asleep in any position at any time - it's not uncommon for some to actually drown in a small amount of water.

You may want to train them to use nipple waterers - which prevent drowning and keep water free of litter and dirt. It also keeps the surroundings dry.

Thanks! They've actually become much more agile since yesterday, and don't tromp through it quite so much. We have chick waterers which keep the water levels to about 1/8", and when they move to their big girl run, we've got a nipple waterer set up for them.

4 days old! Still peeping strong. They are getting sassier, and photo shoots are trickier.

Coconut the Welsummer

Harris the Partridge Rock

Waffles the Easter Egger

The Sussex STILL hasn't told us her name. Check out the gorgeous white tips on her feathers!

Back in their shipping box, now dubbed the "photo shoot green room."

Trying to get a group shot was... difficult...

Where did Harris go???
There she is! Always the first to investigate a wiggling finger.

Day 5 photo shoot. Waffles the EE has tail feathers, and Baby Sussex has a name!!!

Nap time with the snuggle monkey (who my husband swears is a pig... he might be right...)

Nap time in the OTHER corner... because we can.

Harris Meepleton, the Partridge Rock

Waffles Meepleton, the Easter Egger

Agatha Meepleton, the Speckled Sussex

Coconut Meepleton, the Welsummer

Tonks the Battlecat, asking,"do you need someone to nom that meepleton for you?!"

Coconut had a hard day today, and she didn't want to get off my hand at the end of the photo shoot, so we hung out for a little while longer.

At one week old, they are much more difficult to hold during photo shoots. But here they are being meepy!

Harris the PR is sleeeeeeepyyyyyy.... Also a good look at Harris' feather development (Partridge Rock)

Close up on Waffles' feather development. (Easter Egger)

Close up on Agatha's feather development (Speckled Sussex). She was the fluffiest chick to show up, and has continued to be the largest AND the slowest to feather out.

Closeup on Coconut's feather development (Welsummer).
Waffles the EE, practicing her roosting position

Agatha the SS and Coconut the Welsummer

Harris has a lovely upright position... I REALLY hope that doesn't mean she's a HE!

Waffles, Coconut, and Harris

Waffles the EE, roosting some more.

Harris (PR) joins Waffles (EE) in the roost.

Agatha the SS

Waffles gives us her best stink eye.
