Is this pullet what would be called an incomplete columbian on the chicken calculator? Her mama was my Gold/blue based EE and the daddy had to be my golden lakenvelder/vowerk since she is clean legged and good sized. One of the color combos that comes up is incomplete columbian.

Wait for the gene gurus, but I think that is exactly what the calculator means - I just wish the darn thing did have better pictures of the more subtle gene effects.

Still the calculator is already an amazing tool. And too much fun really.

Her mouth is open because she had trapped herself in the neighbors yard and we (me and Chubby) spent 1/2 hour running the fence trying to be convinced that I just wanted to put her with her buddies. She is very very flighty just like the golden lakenvelders.

I figured while I had her I would get her picture.

Don't underestimate the amount of subtleties that are present in chicken genetics!
I already "paint-stakingly" made 850 pictures for the coarse phenotypes and they are still incomplete!
I cut myself by having french and italian versions made, which I am no good at. That means that the word usage in the calculator is restricted from now on. I am working on a "comment generator" in the new generation chicken calculator to compensate.
So by all means come to boards like these if you want to know more.

On incomplete columbian:
She looks pretty complete, probably due to wheaten or e^b based EE involvement. Wheaten and e^b produce cleaner columbians than (heterozygote) e+.
Clean meaning little black pattern on her back and saddle.

Ahh so incomplete means they have the columbian pattern but with a lot more black then they should.

She is a very clear buff color all over - just a few black feathers.

I just wish she wasn't such a nut -case. I guess that's what I get for letting a broody raise her

ETA: Thanks Henk for the awesome chicken calculator!

It is impossible to do all of the variations that can occur in chicken colors. Henk has done an excellent job on the calculator. Experience with chicken breeding is needed to know many of the differences and then a breeder runs into all kinds of differences over time.

Oh I agree - I've come up with some interesting "mutts" that defy any category of color, I just wanted a better idea of what incomplete columbian meant.

And YAY! this girl finally did her first squat for a boy this morning. Then she look really confused - like she was thinking "Why the heck did I just feel the urge to do that?"

Henk by no means did I mean to slam your work, I hope you know that? I can't imagine how hard it was to get all that together.

And you could spend every hour the rest of your life trying to document all the subtleties of color/pattern.

But it's like getting a new computer, once I have the new computer - I want the next one that comes out.

You've spoiled me now....
