I took the ducklings out for their first swim today and to meet their mommies. Apparently the big ducks still think ducklings are for losers.

Thats gorgeous tgperg.

I have all four of my eggs hatched now- a rocky start for one. Had a huge airsac- but the egg was filled with the white nearly drowning the little one. I had to help it so it didnt drown and its the tiniest most petite little duckling I have seen. It has a problem with its down- and will soon have a big bald spot- but apart form that- its strong and healthy and running around like the others now.

tink0602 We still need an update from you... How did things end up for you??

HI!!!! I am so sorry, the last few days have been crazy to say the least. Baby #6 hatched around 2pm on Thursday, BACKWARDS!!! I have no idea how he did that, but we were all watching him, and he kind of kung-fu karate kicked his way out of there and came out feet and butt first! I don't know how, unless he turned himself around in there after he poked the air cell through. It was weird. He never zipped his away around (I guess, because he was using his little baby duck toes

). He kind of made a few pips and a big crack, and then just kicked his way out.

I had to take my daughter down to dress rehearsal for her dance recital, and was a little worried about leaving the other ducklings in the incubator (especially because the oldest had been in about 24 hours). I steamed up my bathroom, and brought the incubator and brooder in there, transferred all of the babies except #6 who was still wet, and then took a peak at the egg that had a hole at the top and was moving a little, but nothing else. I had my warm wet towels and tweezers and pulled a little piece away from the top, to discover the membrane was really thick, white, and rubbery, so I had to do an emergency duck egg c-section. He was peeping at me a little, and I expected him to just finish the job and pop right out after I started - but he didn't. I was so nervous, I worked as quickly as I could with the wet towels and the heat lamp and kind of birthed him into the incubator with the bottom of the shell still underneath of him...he just laid there limp and breathing. I was so worried. I thought he was going to die! The other duckling in the incubator went up and snuggled next to him.

I kept peeking on him and before I had to leave, he had moved a little ways in the incubator but was still a little attached to the shell. When I got home, he had moved into the corner and was snuggled next to the other duckie and still breathing!!! The next morning, he was fluffy and full of life!!!
