Hi there

I have two questions, just received some eggs in the post (UK)sent yesterday and received this morning

only when candling (Light eggs) I noticed one of them has a hair line crack, see photo, candling and non candle

please can I have some advice on whether I can still put this in the incubator?
Has this happened to anyone else and what’s there experience?

second question (dark eggs in photo)
All the eggs have this funny shape, is this a saddled air sac and is this a problem when incubating?

my previous hatch was eggs from around the corner and these shipped eggs look so different when candled now, you can see the and a couple are kinda sloshy

thank you :)

The air sacks are the result of going through the postal system, unfortunately a majority of egg sellers use minimal packaging, from my experience living in England. They should be okay if you incubate them upright. You can put some wax on the cracks, it’ll keep most bacteria out.

You can melt calndle wax and drip it into the crack. Unfortunately that didn’t work for me, but I think that’s because the crack was big and I didn’t cover it all with wax. I missed a spot.

:goodpost:We posted at the same time lol.

I only have experience being a moron and dropping eggs while I'm candling and having them crack. Both eggs were already far along but I put wax and they both hatched. Not sure how it would work in beginning but it worked awesome for me and my cracks were not small

thanks everyone for the replies

will there be a problem if I incubate the eggs on there sides?
I have a Brinsea which turns the eggs so I don’t think standing them up is an option
I would have to turn them myself which I don’t want to do...?

Shipped eggs should be incubated upwards for the best results, as it helps stabilise the air cell at the top of the egg, otherwise the air cell will stay on the side.

Not a stupid question, just my bad wording, sorry. No, I mean fat end up, pointed end down, to keep the air cell steady and stable.

no problem :)

so that would mean that the air sac is at the top? Is that right?

I have put them in egg cups in the incubator,
Would you suggest not turning then for a while untill air sac has settled?

How long will it be until I can lay them on their sides again?
