Incubating eggs...Anyone want to join me

I buy my wafers and stuff from Nasco farm supply seems to be a bit less expensive....you put a lot of time and heart and money in your eggs get a decent incubator from the get go...Daddy bought my kids one 20 years ago and they still use it every year all that has been bought for it is new wafers every 3 or 4 years...good luck I have peafowl eggs in ours this year my first due out the 5th of july....we bought a 2nd incubator this year it is very very habit forming....

Okiedrifter, this incubating is very habit forming. But I'm gonna build my own incubator for a larger hatch.I'll be able to sell all of my hatches at the farm & feed store next door to me.I have about 30 chickens already and getting 30 more friday at a really cheap price.Got 10 barred rock roos that are 2 months old plus a RIR roo.the only thing that has cost me in building my incubator is for the wafer thermostat.Plywood is laying around plexiglass is laying around. So I think it would be my best bet to build instead of buy.But goodluck on everyones hatches.Keep up the good work everyone.

Well day 18 and looks as if only 1 egg is fertile,But since I am a begginer and I get 1 to hatch I'll be very happy.Since my grandkids are verry happy to see them or one of em hatch.

Well day 21 and absolutely no signs of hatching.

Last time I candled there were dark spots at the bottom of the egg and the clear spot at top. So from what I've read and pics I've looked at I thought there were signs of chicks. Not sure what happened although I've had trouble keeping humidity up. I guess I'll give it a couple of more days, but I'm not very optimistic. Maybe I'll order more eggs and try again. Not sure. Will buy a battery and inverter if I do. Should buy a new incubator too. NOt impressed with this one. My mom has used it maybe twice, but that was for call duck eggs she didn't get big hatches but I know ducks are a bit trickier to hatch than chicks. We'll see. Maybe I'll be surprised yet.

Muslw4, I got a feeling your gonna be very surprised one morning when you wake up and find you have chicks in you incubator.Your temp must of been down a bit, So it will take longer for your chicks to hatch. If when you candled all you seen was black spot & a clear spot where the air sack is then most likely your gonna have chicks but just takes time. The old saying goes (only time will tell).

Went into lockdown yesterday, with only 3 eggs, had aircells and dark area but never saw any movement, should I check them or just leave them alone, it is KILLING me not knowing if they are alive:th

Wyogirl, I'm in the same situation and I'm gonna leave mine alone.Cause I have read somewhere that someone had the same situation and they was gonna take them out and throw them away but changed their mind and next day they hatched. Good Luck on your hatch. Just sit back and wait on the little guy to start his calling out and you should have one of these

Well, I probably did a huge no no. Still no signs of pips, I just couldn't stand the suspense any longer. I cracked 2 eggs to see if there were any chicks. Nope, just some blood in one and the other looked just like a bad egg. Doubt the other 20 eggs are going to hatch. Will wait another day or so, but I just have a feeling they either weren't fertilized or something went wrong early on. I did have trouble keeping humidity up. Now, I'm debating. Should I order more eggs from another source and try again? Or maybe buy a different incubator and then try? I'm not happy with this bator. It's a Little Giant Still Air and there aren't very good reviews on the forum for this bator. Or my 3rd option is to just wait and order live chicks next year. The thing is, I really wanted some blue orpingtons. I cna't find a hatchery that sells blue orps. Any thoughts?

I'm on day 20 and really really want to open and candle or at least listen to see if there is any life!!!! I'm gonna wait till at least tomorrow!!!!!
