Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

Good job...be strong! and YES...absolutely!!! they only count as 1/2...LOL! So funny, I was chatting with someone about zoning and how many hens we can have and I thought..I have all Bantams, they shouldn't count as a WHOLE chicken....right????

Keeping Bantams should raise the number I can have

I remember reading a thread one time where someone was having zoneing issues with the city and they had silkies. The person told them to tell the inspector that they weren't chickens, they were Asian ground parrots.

Luckily we live in city limits but have 13 acres and it is a small town so no one really cares. Our closest neighbor is at least a half mile away.

LOL!!! I am pretty lucky that we have great neighbors who grew up with chickens and like our girls

Since we have them as pets, they are very people friendly! In the spring when I hatch chicks, ducks and quails in my classroom, our neighbors are over enjoying their cuteness too

That's great! How much space do you have? Where exactly in Cali are you ( if you don't mind saying?)
I am in orange county about 30 miles form the coast, so city life here all the way! Luckily we are located on the edge of canyon area, so lots of people have horses, chickens, ducks...ect. We have our backyard for them to roam, as well as a good sized front yard area

They are spoiled little house chickens and we are in love with them

When we were moving into our new place (30 acre farm, most is subleased for tilling) one of my first questions to the landlord was if he had any 'limitations' on what kind of livestock we could have or what we could do with the land/buildings... He replied pretty much the same to every question "As long as it's legal, and your are not causing damage to the property, I don't have a problem with it..."

We are zoned residential estate and unincorporated, pretty much identical to being zoned agricultural with just a few limitions... The only negative is that we are surrounded on all sides but incorporated areas, and even have a gated home owners organization retirement community across the street... They have called the po-po a few times but since we are not violating any laws or zoning rules it's more like a handshake by the po-po...

I do expect that next summer might be very interesting though, once the peas and guineas are out in their netted flight pasture making all sorts of noise... I should have about 40 peas and 20 guineas, after this season is over, as well as the maybe 50 or so chickens...

I really want to hatch an ostrich next year, but I'm having a hard time convincing the lady to go along with that...

WOW...that would be a really fun hatch!!!! hubby keeps telling me if we move to a more rural area, I can have whatever animals I want

Could happen, but we have the best of all worlds here...beach, mountains and desert all at our finger tips!

I can not imagine what an Ostrich hatch would be like. Imagine the incubator you would need!

Nice cool summers, awful cold winters. I had a cousin who lived near Chicago for a while and I visited her when I was a kid. I haven't traveled a lot up there but if I do so in the future, it will be done in the summer.
