Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

NE corner of Illinois, 50 miles North of Chicago and 50 miles South of Milwaukee...

About 40 days @ 97° - 98° eggs cost about $100 a piece...
YIKES...don't know if I would survive waiting that long for a hatch

Nice cool summers, awful cold winters.

Born and raised in the area, the winters really don't bother me... We honestly don't get that many real cold days each year, but when we do get them they can be brutal in the -20° range but it's generally just for a day or two... The snow on the other hand kicked our butts this last year as we were moving in the house in the dead of winter, to be blunt I probably spent more hours moving snow then actually moving into the house...

I grew up in Arkansas just south of where I am now but I spent time in the Air Force and then with my Hubby who is now retired Air Force. We met in Anchorage, AK which we both loved. I think (no experience to back it up) that Illinois and Wisconsin have worse winters than Alaska, simply because in AK, once it is frozen it stays that way, generally. I did not do chickens when we were there. I am amazed that they even survive up there: temp and predators out to get them and all. I am totally impressed with Alaskan's set up. It is amazing.

I set some eggs on July 20th. I expect them to hatch on the 9th.
I set one from each of my laying LF hens.
I don't know what I'm going to do with the chicks....
