Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

YEAH!!! More people! More hatching! :celebrate

For the egg with the slanted aircell, anyway you can do the rest of incubation with the egg standing?

And YES official candling day on Friday, those with staggered hatches, who need to candle on other days, go ahead, BUT PLEASE SHARE! :D

Gotta live vicariously ya know!

For me it's not so much a need, I candle every other day or so just to monitor progress ;) I also use this time candling time as a faux mom went to get some food and drink 'cool down' period for the day... Plus my daughters get a HUGE kick out of seeing inside the eggs when I candle, especially when they see some movement, and since a majority of the reason I'm incubating is to let them experience the birth/creation of life in an egg, it's something that keeps them more involved...

Right now I have another daily attention holder for the daughters... The pea I hatched the other day had a hard time hatching, I pretty much assisted the entire thing after the internal pip, as it became clear early on that this bird just wasn't going to do it their self... The pea has a sever case of wry neck as well as toe problems... It's been about 24 hours now and with some vitamins and a little neck massaging the little guy is 100% better but still far from over the issues... For the first 12 hours the little guy laid flat on his back and rolled around, with zero sense of balance today they can at least sit upright and get back upright... The daughters check on the little guy every hour and give me updates, hoping I don't end of having to cull the guy, only time will tell, the progress so far is promising...

Hope your little guy continues to make progress

That is so great that your girls get to see the process! I usually hatch in my classroom and this is the first time I am hatching at home. My hubby is getting a huge kick out of all of this, as he usually only gets to see the end result...fuzzy butts!

It's amazing how much progress they can make in a short time, since the last post (about an hour ago) he has started to stand, it's only for a short period and he has little to no balance and falls over in short but he is trying hard and looks much more alert, a giant leap form a chick that couldn't doing anything but roll around on his back yesterday... His neck is probably about 50% on it's way to being straight as well... I hate to disrupt his standing progress thus far but he is going to get some boots tonight for his toe issues, before they set in place...

BTW as I said this was an assisted hatch, he internally pipped on time but 24 hours later had not externally pipped even though he had lots of wiggles and his chirp was noticeably getting weaker and wiggles getting weaker by the hour, so I candled for a location and did the external pip for him, just enough to allow some air in... Let him sit for about 12 more hours and he still was not doing anything... So I opened up the pip hole enough so I could see and monitor the blood in the membrane, as soon as the blood was gone I zipped him the rest of the way, but left the membrane intact, covered it with plastic wrap to keep moist, hoping he would push out... Needless to say 6 hours later he still had not pushed out of the membrane, so I finished the hatch for him and right away noticed how crooked the neck was... Basically he probably would have never been able to get out int he physical condition he was in, so I'm glad I made the right call to assist...

Hi all.

I just found this thread I am relatively new to BYC and still finding threads that interest me.

I know your hatch a long is for August 8th, I have some pheasant eggs set to hatch on the 6th I think. Can I play along?

I started with 42 eggs and I down to 30, however, I think there may be around a half a dozen that are very questionable.

It is hard to see into so many of the eggs, and I hate to throw one out that might make it.

I have found articles claiming pheasant eggs take between 23-28 days, so I could be off on my days....sigh.

It's okay with me!!!
Sorry to hear about the dozen that didn't make it; hope the half dozen are alright after all!

I have the same problem. I have dark eggs; one egg is white, but the other four are brown.
....sigh (with you).

My broody Serama is sitting on two eggs that may hatch on the 8th... that is what my calender says anyway! The chickies might not agree : )

I haven't met a baby who knows how to read a calender.

My DS is my official chicken helper. He has claimed half ownership of all my chickens and full ownership of a few of them. lol He enjoys candling nights too. =)
All the best with your little pea baby!

Ok I know I have been doing lots of things wrong. This is my first batch of chick eggs and I didn't look up a lot. I turned them too much. And I candled them too late. And I've been doing the water test. But today is my 22 day of the eggs being in the incubator. I've got every thing right. I just have to wait. The temp has spiked up and down. And I didn't know what the humidity was. But now I know. Do you think my eggs will have a chance?

I've been seeing 2 of my best eggs wobble but not today and I think I heard a chirp yesterday but I wasn't sure.
