Incubating Lavender Ameraucanas Dry Hatch or No?

My

My breeder that sent my Paul Smith eggs was a sweet older lady and sent the eggs packed on their sides😖 She said dont worry sweetheart, just let me know how it goes.... I will get you some more and you will have your flock. So kind.
My silkie eggs were packed on their sides and 14/15 that went to lockdown (I had 16, one was infertile) hatched! I think the fertility and health of the birds and age of the eggs play a bigger role then we think! Keep me posted! :)

Thats so crazy cool! I thought about trying it too because I noticed when I bought Happy Eggs brand from Safeway that one of them was fertilized with a little blood spot. I’m going to leave my babies alone now, not candle til next week🧐🤨 Soooo hard! Can’t wait! I’m too embarrassed to ask my boss for the hatch days off again! Lol So will just have to keep driving home at lunch every day! She had chickens growing up at least so she doesnt think I am too insane🤪😜
My family has already given up on me, they just don't get the chicken thing!:) But they are humoring me and building a new coop!:love

Double Ugh! That’s been my life since March. So sorry to hear this and especially with those extra special eggs😭 At least half of mine are viable though, even after sitting in an outdoor postal box at noon in 109 degrees sideways. So they can still make it! How long will you let them sit you think? I only sat mine for 8 hours but, someone said it should have been longer:/
I sat them 26 hours. I think that is an important step for the air cell, but I’m no pro!

I have been researching extensively on shipped eggs and it depends on air cell size from what I understand. If the air cells are small and they look good then they should sit for 12 to 24 hours before setting. If the air cells look big and the eggs appear to be older, as they were in my case, then it’s recommended to let them only sit six hours.:)
Thanks for that info! Mine looked normal I would say.

Hope your eggs arrived OK today @LavinmyBasket!:)

Day 10 candling and only ONE (egg number 9, I love you...) looks good, I am keeping this one if it hatches, even if it is a rooster at this point! I am going to buy chicks next time! :he

No way!!! I am so sorry!! Hatching is so stressful!! I have 2 chicks I am so grateful for. The whole lockdown I was freaking out and when they hatched I couldn’t believe it. When people would ask how many hatched and I’d say 2 (out of 14) they would look at me like I did terrible & I’m like no you have no idea how hard it is to hatch these from shipped eggs! I always say they were from the 2 free eggs😂😂😂

I have eggs coming that I will just keep the hens for colorful eggs. They ship 6/24. I’m curious to see how well they hatch. Black copper maran, lavender Orpington, olive egger & Silverudd blue isabar, plus 6 more LA. This will be interesting.

Breeder made the mistake just now of asking how my eggs are doing! So, I told her, very nicely of course. I was not planning on saying anything, not her fault after all. Shipped eggs are risky as we all well know. She is awesome and very responsive, she has not answered me yet, though I expect it is the middle of the night where she lives!
The eggs were actually beautifully packed in foam and double boxed with a cushion layer between the boxes. :)
Where did you get them this time?

I had another set of ameraucana eggs that I ordered, but the shipment fell through, so I had extra room in the incubator. Just for fun I bought fertilized eggs at the grocery store, the kind people eat, as I had read on a thread that people do that sometimes, especially with Trader Joe's for some reason. I thought it could be a fun experiment to see if they did anything. I was not expecting them to do anything. I bought a dozen, picked the 6 that had the best looking air cells (much better than ANYTHING that I have had shipped) and put them in my worst incubator (the one I use for drying chicks after hatching mostly, as it is a monster to regulate temp and humidity), basically ignored them except for turning when I remembered, and 2 and possibly 3 of them are developing nicely here DAY 9. Saw the eye staring back at me today when I candled them!
Mind you, I live in Hawaii, these grocery store eggs from my local store (not Trader Joe's) were SHIPPED here either by boat or plane, from California, who knows how long they have been refrigerated, has to be 2 weeks at least and they are doing better then the Ameraucanas!!!!!!!!
No way!!! You must keep us posted on this, I can’t wait to see what you get! That is unbelievable! I’m In Ohio and the closest self blue I can find are 4 hours away and I don’t know where her lines come from. I asked twice. I ordered 6 weeks ago and those are the 6 that are coming with the colorful eggs on 6/24. I want to breed LA for 4-H kids in our area, people like us who can’t get them and to maybe sell hatching eggs (maybe). So I want good stock that is why I order from Paul Smith. So hopefully the dry hatch will be successful. So I’m not in Hawaii, but still have trouble!
