incubating mallard duck eggs

I am laughing over here because my mallard hen must be HUGE!!! She is the same size as my pekins. Now I wonder what I REALLY have out there!!!

She's probably a rouen, not a mallard.

She has the blue streaks like a mallard. Come to think of it, we never really did look into what she is. She has the feather colors of a mallard with the blue streaks under her wings.

I posted links to pics of mallards and rouens. The only difference is that mallards have 1 eye stripe and rouens have 2...plus the huge size difference. I believe mallards are about 2 pounds where rouens can get up to 11.

she is a mallard. How odd!!!

If she's as big as you say she'd have to be a rouen, mallards don't get that big. Rouens and mallards look the same as far as color and markings (except the eye stripe) but the rouens are much bigger.

ETA: Here's a pic of one of my rouen hens next to one of my pekin hens, they are about the same size.

She is not anywhere near 11 lbs. Maybe 5 on the heavy side. My pekins are larger than her by far, but she is not small.

ETA: From your pic, I believe I have a large mallard becasue she is not as big as my pekins, just close - and she has their stature.

I said they could get up to 11 pounds, I think mine are 5-6.

She is maybe 5 lbs. I see I contradicted myself here too. I looked at the cam - they are still in the pond - dummies. She is just slight smaller than the pekins. However she looks WAY more like the mallard you posted than the rouen. I beleive I have a mystery here!!!

They can come in different shades but if they have that pattern (brown 'laced' feathers) they are either mallard or rouen. Mallards can also fly, they are the 'wild' migratory ducks after all. Rouens might be able to fly for a small distance, I think mine get maybe 2 feet off the ground for about 15 feet
