@kwhites634 , tell me about field trials... What are they?

There are a few different types. Our's were essentially bird hunting from horseback. 2 handlers, 2 dogs, 2 judges, usually working planted quail, for 30 or 60 minutes at a time, depending on the stake. Idea is for the dogs to run, hitting suitable cover along a loosely prescribed course, and hopefully scenting the bird(s), which the dog should point & hold 'til the the handler could find them (they generally run pretty big, thus the horse), dismount, flush the bird, and fire a blank pistol or shotgun. The dog is judged on pattern (checking likely cover) and how they handle their birds. Chasing the flushed bird (breaking shot), is ground for disqualification. When those two dogs finish the course, or run out of time, they they are leashed and another brace (two more dogs) is started along the same course. At the conclusion of the stake ( or class, if you will), all of the competing dogs are judged against one another & 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place is announced. Most stakes are trophy stakes, some (professional handlers) are money stakes.

There's much more to it, but that's the gist of it. Clear as mud?

DW goes to the PYO patch most years & picks some almost as large as a ping pong ball! Usually they aren't as sweet as the smaller ones, but they sure make for a dandy strawberry pie or three. It just don't get much better than that!
It's funny, but I don't really like strawberries. Most fruit I like fresh, whole. Once it's cooked - in a pie or a jam, I don't like it. I am NOT looking forward to trying strawberry popcorn. I don't like strawberry ice cream. I would eat chocolate covered strawberries....

But,I would have WAY more fun at the Garlic festival, up in Gilroy.
Any pictures of the fly tie chickens? Adults

Morning you have quite a variety going on!!!
Thanks!!! I had posted that with my phone, and I mis-typed. EVERYTHING I set, other than Silkies and BY mix was shipped. So Fly Tie chicks were from the 24 hour auction (The Spoiled Chicken). I never knew that some Fly fishing lures were actually made from chicken feathers. The Spoiled Chicken folks don't breed for LURE quality feathers. They are actually a cross.....bantam barred Fly tie/ Ohiki

Could be a multitude of things. Poor parent stock, poor incubation temp, poor incubation humidity, they just weren't strong enough in the first place, poor incubation ventilation.......

No... Mama hen hatched them... is it possible to peep the egg for them? The hen is still sitting on them

We went to the very first Garlic Festival when we lived in Morgan Hill. Wasn't much then as it is now. The feathers look good. Problem with selling capes for fly tying is that you have to kill chicken for it. If I got into tying as my friend did I'd just take a few feathers from him. Nothing lost well maybe a hook from a snag... Thanks for the pictures
