They are. It has the divider in (left of feeder) for now, and when they get bigger I can slide it out and double the space. So far they're only using 1/2 of 2' x4' section. Won't be long before they travel the full 4 feet to the front... lol! They seem very happy in it... they barely make a peep!

Awesome!

Qwerstion... I candled last night (day 21 for ducks, day 14 for chicks) I have never seen such a disparity in growth. Air cells all seem decent, and weight loss is fine, but chick/duckling growth looks varied. One duckling looks like it's about ready to internally pip! Very full. Some of the chicks look far along, and some seem behind. I'm bumfuzzled.

4 different breeds, but different development per breed, so... ???
Steady Brinsea bator, so its not hot spot issues.
No broodys started incubating them before collection.
All eggs were under 10 days old.

What else would cause this?

Young layers could be an issue. All mommas are young.
Temps are typical cause, and u ruled that out. So there are many other odd things that could be a factor, but should not be that obvious to the eye, but you have hatched enough to notice...... extended storage, clutch lay day, (dev. stage at oviposition) egg PH and egg characteristics example: porosity, pigmentation and egg size, hens age as suggested, Inbreeding, breed, lighting effects on the egg during incubation (spectra and intensity of lights), and on and on.
EDIT to add: AIR FLOW!
Ok. Can we give Sally a limit on how many times a month she can change her avy? I can't keep up with her :Lau.
ha !! sure red... I will just keep this one I am tired of changing it anyways

Well, if it's any consolation, I am still waiting on my two 'tardy' little boogers that I 'accidentally' dropped in the bator a few days later than my weekend arrivals.

Great hatch on your part !
did you ever candle them and see when they may be arriving?

Ok thanks. Good things to think about. I'll check my notes and see what I can determine. Lay day is particularly interesting to me. I'll do some research on that!

Thanks dearie! :highfive:

Quote: All great ones, Sally...but even in a Brinsea, location, location, location is worthy of mention. If your incubator is on a tabletop along an exterior wall, the radiant cooling will have an effect. Turning the incubator tray, or turning the whole incubator front to back every couple of days may help even it out. But if that's the case, unless you play musical eggs, the eggs in the back will be the eggs less developed.
