x2Good luck with the new ones.

Oops ..... ummmm, you guys didn't see that I used bad grammar, right?

Lockdown today. Honas, backyard blend, and the double yolker. I need to clean the hatcher and candle.

I started with 24 eggs. I culled clears on day 7 and had 15 eggs left. They are on day 19 and I am so excited! The eggs are Cochin x Red sex-link and Cochin x Silkie. The only chick that I have hatched so far died from a bacterial imbalance from my dad not believing me when I said that we needed to slowly transition to another feed. I am so excited!

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

Sorry to hear that you lost some chickens. At the very least she should be ready to have a necropsy done rather than just cull and be done with it. It would still be a mystery then.
Thanks. This is a quote about mink from the MO Dept. of Conservation web site. "Minks do not kill wantonly." That is soooo inaccurate.
Except for a nearly 8 year old Ameraucana - who got killed - they're all Black Penedesencas. This building had all my mature hens ranging from 2 to 5. I don't have a bird over a year of age any more.
I have a lot of trapping and camera plans. I just wish I had more than one camera. Maybe I'll buy another with all the money I'll be saving on chicken feed.![]()
I just found one on craigslist for $40. He has 6 of them he'll let go for $200. Same camera used on Amazon is $104. I really could use all 6.
I just can't get over how many people I read about on BYC that say they don't have predators and don't lock up their chickens.
Thanks but I'm sure it isn't an IT. I'm sure it is a THEM.
After I lost 4 coops full of birds a couple years ago, I went out to check on a rooster and hen after dark that were in a building. Shining the flashlight through the window, there were no chickens but a mink sitting on the roost looking at me. I shot it. I bought a baby monitor and put it in one of the coops. 2 nights later I was awakened to lots of thrashing but no chicken clucking. I ran out to find a mink slaughtering birds. I was able to save half of them. The doors had a1" gap under them. I added extensions to bring them down to the concrete floor. I'm about to wrap those extensions in metal.
Thanks.
Jokes don't always translate well.

You feed coons to your chickens?I don't eat squirrel any more. My chickens eat any raccoons I catch.
We only have Bald and Golden Eagles. Sea Eagles are occasional visitors nesting in Alaska.
Positive. All birds in good health at dusk, all dead with tiny vampire like punctures in the neck in the morning.

No avocados w/ brown seed cover.ok, so i have a stupid newby question
what can i not feed my chickens? (like house hold scrap type stuff) will anything make them sick or die like onions or grapes
i've only had chickens for like 6 years lol![]()

B/c it's a dog.but why not??it would be impressive if they could catch her![]()
i put moldy food in the compost but i am very sure they jump in there and eat it anyway, but i try not to let them eat it
i dont give those either
YAYYYYYY!!!!!
Thanks!
