Homemade potato soup...deep fried perch .....that's what's for dinner.

Bonfire after.....any takers?
Soup sounds wonderful! Perch - I've never tried. Enjoy!!!

Hello everyone! Another hot DRY day! I wish they could take some of the water that is causing so much damage in West Virginia and send it out to us!!! I hope any of our BYC'ers in WV are safe and dry. The flooding is BAD, and they are getting another storm rolling in.

I incubated 6 eggs for gotro17, 3 made it to lockdown looking really good, 2 questionable/hard to see in also made it. The 3 good ones hatched, the 2 questionable did not.

27 of my tiniest babies (all 7 - 12 days old) are being babysat in gotro17's garage. I am having an appraisal done on my house, and having stinky chicks in your bathroom probably wouldn't be good. Termite inspection was today, appraisal tomorrow, so they get to come home tomorrow night. My 16 - 23 day old chicks were sent out to the outside brooder. They have a heat plate at night, but with 100+ days, they shouldn't need the heat plate.

Next set of eggs gets locked down Wednesday. Happy Hatching everyone!!

And again, I hope anybody affected by the floods in WV are safe and dry -- you are in my thoughts!

Hey guys, when I went to check for extra eggs, I found a pullet egg, and an egg was broken with egg on the others. Do they need wiped, washed, or left alone. She is off at the moment. I am not sure if there was a fight or if it is break time. The heat index is in the nineties either way.

Good question Dax. I left the dirty ones but removed the pieces. 5 chicks hatched out of the 12. It got real ugly. I hate it when they break.

Yes.

It's 104 here in the shade and while the thermometer is not calibrated it did read the same as several in store.

Anywhere where a bonfire is welcome is cooler than here. Feel like I'm in one. I'll bring the s'mores.

All chickens are accounted for at least at first glance. Need to get back out there and see how they are doing.

Glad your chickens are okay....now take care of yourself and stay out of that heat

x2 :love Me wants it!!!!!!!!!! Oops ..... ummmm, you guys didn't see that I used bad grammar, right? Specially not Whites? :weee :weee AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW:love  Are we really that bad? Sorry to hear that you lost some chickens. :( That's always very sad and frustrating. You feed coons to your chickens? :lau Ya know, that's a good idea, feeding predators to the chickens! I would feel very smug if I could feed that awful fox to my chickens and then make a hat for myself out his skin! No avocados w/ brown seed cover. :celebrate Congrats! B/c it's a dog.:rant
I already knew about the avocados but thanks!
Ok new friends....first off thanks so much for all the help over the past few days! Now that baby has hatched when should I give her to momma hen who has her week old sibling? I'm worried that week old baby is too far ahead and the new kid will be ignored. Thoughts?
I would try it

Stay safe down there. 104 here. To crazy hot and very dry. And the north wind is kicking up. Not good combo.

X2 for WV

Hey all...as much as we all LOVE Hershey's Chocolate made in PA, USA, LOL, lets not discuss politics and such here on BYC? Too much controversy on this subject.

Carry on y'all. (And make sure to eat your chocolate tonight!)

My Dad does it for fun now too. I am just in my 1st year being an Apprentice Toolmaker, so actual learning how to mill, turn and grind things and not just watch. Dad said it's bout freaking time girl!

x2. :gig
I've only turn wood with no real classes. It's fun to see what the different woods turn out when the lathe is turned off.

I have yet to turn some wood, can't decide which to use. Red oak, cherry or hickory. I hope to someday have my own mill and lathe so I can make projects at home. I know that can cause issues so I would do as my Father did, put up a Closed sign on barn. He is 74 and doesn't need two new jobs a day while retired.
