IMHO, you can't access wilderness by road.
I'm not a fan of crowds when I want to enjoy wilderness. It isn't wilderness with a lot of people around. I want to see wildlife, not people.
I was shocked when I lived in Germany at what they call campgrounds. There's an area along a nice river with what resembles an RV dealer parking lot and a forest of TV antennas. I'd sneer at them as I'd hike by.
My father-in-law tried to talk me into buying a camper for years till I finally told him, it won't fit in my canoe.
If I want to travel and have comfort, there are hotels and rental homes for that.
That's just the way I look at it.
