Does anyone recommend a certain type of grower feed for ducks? I have been feeding mine Poulin Grain turkey/gamebird grower finisher b/c that's what my local feed store carries, but I believe my ducks need more niacin. Should I just add niacin to their water and feed them the same thing? The chart and the label on the feed I use don't quite match up, though, so I think I should switch ....
I know alot of people use purina flock raiser, but I was reading today about how you shouldn't use feed that is made for lots of types of poultry. Is that right?
Thank you very much Kathy for the chart and info.!
Call the mfg and ask them how much niacin is in it, because turkeys and/or some types of gamefowl might need more niacin than ducks, so it might already have enough. I raise my ducklings on turkey *starter*, and I don't have to supplement.

I would go with plain niacin rather than timed release (good work-around for now, what you are doing, though), or there's B complex or brewer's yeast. Here is a writeup I did from what I have read and seen here.

....

I would go with brewer's yeast. Forgive me for using capital letters, but for anyone else who may casually look over this thread, NOT baking yeast, NOT winemaking yeast. Brewer's yeast is a nutritional supplement and it provides niacin and a few other vitamins.

Generally, folks who supplement with brewer’s yeast use a tablespoon per cup of food.

Ducklings need about three times the niacin chicks do. And some ducklings get leg problems or seizures if they don't have enough niacin.

If you cannot find the brewer's yeast, or if you happen to have (here come the capital letters again, please forgive me) PLAIN niacin - NOT no-flush, NOT timed release, then dissolve 150 mg niacin per gallon of water for the duckling’s drinking water.

Another approach is to use B Complex capsules, and use the B3 - niacin - levels as a guide. Again, 150 mg B3 per gallon of drinking water.

Keep the little one on the supplements for about 8 weeks.

Sometimes it only takes a few days to see improvement.

You can also see how it went for Qwackers and Bentley from these threads.

Hello all, and good night all. I just locked down 3 eggs I felt confident in of gotro17's eggs, 3 of my eggs I thought looked good, but the 14 BCM's did not look good. Just 1 looked like it had gone full term.

Let's hope some hatch!
