Pardon me if I shock someone with a chicken-related question, but what's the recommended age to switch young birds over from chick starter to something like all flock?

No recommended age that I know of. I've had my last two batches of birds on Flock raiser from the day they hatched.

I have them on all flock from day one.

All flock is always. Grower/finisher is about ten weeks.
I won't make the trip to TSC for more starter, then. Great timing, since I'm all but out.
Just turned the younger chicks in with the older young birds, who are about 12 weeks old now...should be interesting to see how long it takes the babies to figure out the ramp.

Nope.
Well, hurry up! We want to hear from you!
LOL. Been unusually hot here for quite a while. Escaped from Phoenix 3 yrs ago but the heat found me this summer. Recorded 111 one day last month. Just ugly. Lost 2 cockerels Bielefelder & Bielefelder/red orp mix. They were very big boys. But the good news is that I successfully hatched 9 babies 2 weeks ago, 3 of them from the Biel that I lost. One is a pullet!! The other 6 are various CCL mixes. Practicing incubating skills. Will be incubating again within the week, once I collect some more Biel eggs from the one pullet that I have. Luckily I had 3 Biel cockerels.

Good luck with them. Sorry to hear you lost some to the heat.
