Things are going well. How are things out your way, goats still working out?

Glad to hear it. Goats are doing well. I need to trim hooves on them actually (any tips?) and they love to eat my weeds

Which percentage humidity do you guys average in your incubators?

Mine is usually around 45%.
I don't check humidity.

I fill containers with water at the beginning and don't add again unless the eggs start losing too much weight. Then I fill again at the end.

Ambient humidity can vary widely depending on if the AC is on and if the incubator is in a spare room or the cellar.

only want it to go to 93 today,

anything over 90 is just too hot for me. Im starting to think WV mountains are sounding better and better lately.
We are over the hump for now. Down 10F over what it has been for the last week.

It is cooler but still like walking in soup. 88% humidity right now.
I was watching the Weather Channel this morning and St. Louis set the record for the country last week with 112 heat index and a continuous heat index over 100 for 31 straight hours.
Not a fun record to set.
Tough chickens are fine though. I have 32 chicks out in the coops ranging from 4 days to 8 weeks. I was reluctant to put the youngest out there till the temperature dropped.

Maybe CC has a place he'll sell you

I don't remember it being this hot for this long, and it's that way across the entire country.
Is grass supposed to go "crunch, crunch" when you walk on it?
Poor chickens forgot how to close their beaks
I'm running out of ice
I break a sweat just breathing
I saw something on the weather channel about some extreme weather you had yesterday.

We've had 8 inches of rain so far this month and a chance of rain every day this week.

I may have to consider getting some fecal samples read.

Don't worry; it's a fleeting pleasure that will disappear the 1st time you decide to quote someone

I know right! How do you think all the meat in my freezer felt lol
I cooked turkey last night, a huge meatloaf today, mom made beef hearts and livers, dad cut the rest of the liver up for the fish at the gun club ponds, All those meat birds I was so proud of I had the older sons and wives come get what they could cook, and the deer sausage and steaks. I still have a ton of burger to cook off, a few chickens and the fish I trashed, sucked huge box of haddock too. I am happy I pulled the ham a few weeks ago and cooked it off. what a waste, well I guess the only thing wasted was some beef liver, some being about 20 lbs or more.
I think if it had been me, I would have fired up all the grills, fire pits and smokers, invited everyone I didn't mind hanging out with and had a big meat cookout asking everyone to bring the cocktails and a creative healthy dish.
All day party.

I keep wanting to add up the lost cash in my head but I dont think I could bare it

I was so proud to fill my freezer with my own birds and our friend butchers left overs and great buys. All that processing of those meaties ughhhhhh at least the kids get to eat good for a bit.
Jerky?

we have to check to be sure the condenser etc is not covered with dust or dander, its in the garage and there have been chicks, woodworking and other crud going on in there over the last year, so it may be the issue with it. Lessons are learned quickly about stuff like that!!!
The mice keep building nests in the mower and generator motors with all the feathers laying around.

Paddler
You suppose the plastic airline-approved dog kennels would work? Sturdier than a cardboard box & extremely well ventilated.
It may work but I doubt it is an approved shipper by the USPS. It is also more expensive and heavier than a corrugated box. Then you would have to either sell the kennel to the buyer or have them ship it back to you.

I think the good boxes have those liners to prevent spread of disease and dander?
If you look at the links I posted, they have filters on the holes.

Sally, how much do Serama eggs weigh?
I saw a breeder that said they strive for 18-24 grams for hatching.

Good morning everyone!

Good morning Sally!

Quote: I have to disagree! The front is 100% ventilated, being nothing but strong welded wire, hinged on one side for a door, plus ventilation near the top covered by the same wire. All the ones I have or have had in the past are cream-colored to reflect heat. I've shipped my share of dogs in them, and a #50 dog should certainly require more ventilation than a #3-4 chicken.

Mornin MC, you have little one today? pool time?
Yup, she is here.

Perhaps a chicken would be okay. Perhaps. A vet would not recommend you using one in this heat. You can disagree, but I am repeating what I have heard many times over during the summer.
