You know you're having a nightmare when there's ducks as far as the eye can see, and you're feeding them all!

No. The unabsorbed yolk one was a nightmare, but DUCKS everywhere would make me wake up in a terrific mood!!

I truly need one of those wine sippy cups - didn't have time to get one today.:thumbsup
Yuuuuuup!

Welcome home, Dax!  BTW, I've been meaning to thank you for giving me the idea to use those two-compartment goat feeders at TSC - I put oyster shell and grit in them, they work great and were cheap.
I'm so sorry. :hugs

I am so chronically sleep deprived - couldn't sleep last night despite trying to go to bed early (something was wandering around last night and the neighbor's dog was barking - it was enough for me to go out and make sure all the chickens were ok in the middle of the night (around 2 am CDT, around when MC was putting out her trash). Nothing was in the yard (very good fencing, and coops very sturdy), but I was compelled to check anyway.

When I got home today, I did the minimum in chicken chores (it rained and was 78F when I was out there - I had to wear my long johns!:gig ). Then I fell asleep for about 3 hours. Then locked them up for the night. Time for more sleep now.

But first - re: the house stories. When I bought my house, it had previously had a flat gravel roof, and some bozo who did a lot of bad renovation put a pitched metal roof over it (so my attic floor is the old gravel roof). Well the fireplace terminated in the attic, as did the venting for the heating unit. CRAZY. More crazy stuff as well (including an offer to take the old heating unit as an antique), but that is the weirdest...

OK, now heading to bed. Night, all!

I want to know more about the goat feeder thing
And why on earth would someone think it ok to have the fireplace terminate in the 'attic'

:lau Hi benny!

Incubating W/ Friends Hatcher list

Birthdays:

Sally Sunshine
My fan took a crap in the blue bator, lost half the eggs, so down to about 15 or so eggs of all my breeds

BantyChooks AKA Banti or Bubbles
Nothing, bators are off 'till next year. And I'm NOT giving eggs to my broodies, before you ask..... Umm. Yeah.

Chaos18 AKA Trouble or Chaos
Bators are off for the time being.

MotorcycleChick AKA MC or Abi
22 total Silver Pencil Rock eggs set 7/8 The girls are sharing a nest again, so they only have four. The other 18 are in the incubator. *Update* I have 16 eggs left in the incubator and three under the girls.

kwhites634 AKA Whites, Whitey, Ken, Red Dog..... Just not late for supper
Not much to update since the 5 7/2 chicks hatched. Put them outside a couple days ago & they're loving life. No further incubation planned for a while; 17 birds is plenty.

daxigait AKA Dax or Daxi
Broody has eight eggs 6/24, but I don't know how many are fertile since my cockerels are young and only with the hens on the odd evening. Green egg layers CL over OE/BSL/BR/RIR.
*Update*
One more week for my broody, but it is supposed to be really hot (heat index today 107 for example). hatch 14/15

Jessimom AKA Kathy
I have 14 BCM that gotro17 had shipped, 4 legbars (I think were also shipped), along with I think 12 of my backyard chicken eggs - these are on day 10. And I set 28???? eggs 2 days ago. It's a mix of gotro17's backyard mix eggs, and mine. I'll do an accurate count if I ever candle them.

Mine are probably not all fertile, Since we pulled the roosters several weeks ago, and the baby roos were just starting to figure out how to play with the girls when they started to crow and got pulled.. I currently have a BEAUTIFUL Salmon Favorelle and 2 black silkie roos in my basement. Waiting until I figure out what we are going to do with them.

I also have 2 broodies sitting on eggs. Not sure how far along, or how many eggs. They both should be getting close though.

mlm Mike AKA Mike or Mikemikemikemikemike

6 cemani(possible Hmong crosses)
All on day 7, checked one egg last night, veining. Candling the rest tonight.

Egg update.
Incubator was unplugged for my entire shift at work last night. Returned to normal working conditions upon realization. Am not optimistic at this point but stranger things have happened.

megan805
Hi everyone have 16 eggs in bator, Olive egger and blue birchan maran should be fun due the 26th.

Leave a LightOn
Six LF Wheaten Ameraucana under bantam D'uccle since 6/27. Broody holding tight day 11. No leakers or stinkers. One poopy and cleaned today.
Update: One of six hatched yesterday, Day 20. Other five eggs rotten!

I will let the broody raise her so she won't be lonely. Mama raised a pair last year for 8 weeks. They were bigger than her!

danielkbrantley

got a dozen mutt eggs and 11 of 12 hatched out. The first hatched Thursday evening around 11:30 p.m. Three more hatched overnight. Another hatched in the morning while I let the big girls outta the coop, and the other six hatched throughout the day. They're now in the brooder and are painfully cute. My girls (human daughters) have been oohing and aahhhing all day.

I used a borrowed LG still air and bought an egg turner to make life easier. Kept it at 99-100 on my digital thermo and 101-102 on the (non-digital). Humidity first couple weeks was 45 or so, then let it drift down to 35 until late on day 18, when I amped up the humidity to 63-65%.

And I am still in shock that it worked so well and so...easily...

Thanks all for your help! If you scan through this thread long enough, you'll see how uninformed I was prior to this. Your help has been irreplaceable!

Thanks a million,

Daniel
