INCUBATING w/FRIENDS! w/Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs No problem!

What? No! The weather! The temperature in the bathroom!

Yeah, it's texas.... we have AC in most rooms, except the downstairs master bathroom. I use it as a green house for my plants in the window too, I have a box window. Makes a great room for starting plants when it's too hot/cold. LOL

But... yeah, I'm used to the heat. haha

When we used the brooder upstairs, we just turned the AC off in the window unit during the night, and only turned it on (otherwise, it got to be like 110), in the afternoon for our first 2 sets of babies. No heat lamp required. haha!

It's finally starting to drop below 80 at night now though.

It is fair to say, that my jetted bathtub doesn't get much use during the summer because of the lack of AC in that room though.

Okay, last hatching question, and I'll shut up.

Given the variance in temps while keeping the eggs in a bowl to prepare for incubation, is it safe to leave the baby in the incubator for more than 24 hours, while I wait to see if the other egg or two is going to pip as well? Or should I just take her out when she's fully dry... and how long before I give up on the other eggs hatching?

(The articles I read, had different opinions on how long they are viable for after day 21.)

Eggs 'can" hatch up to day 28. Give it two days (day 23 at least) and then start to get worried. Nature is unexpected. I don't feel comfortable with the opinion that a chick pops out on day 21 without fail, or it is too weak.

My kids like to take "cold" baths in the jetted tub. They get to play with bubbles, get clean, have jets, and use cold water. I'm not a fan of cold water, so I don't use it much until it cools off, (with less humidity, even when it's not super hot, the humidity makes you feel sticky and gross.)

I let them have at it. As long a they help clean the tub afterwards. I'm not big on sharing my toilet, shower, or tub. My husband teases me, that if I could build my own house, I'd have a "mom bathroom" that's off limits to everyone else, including him. He's not far off.

This little chick was really interested in me, when I snuck in there to take her picture, she watched me, then came up to the glass to see me.

I'm not sure who the mother is, there's two possibilities. Little gray, who died, white fluff, who's our cochin female (all white) the daddy's a red/green cochin with the cutest butt feathers.



Based on the babies coloring, you'd assume the grey chicken would be the mom, right?

I so agree! I had some roommates from... Another place. The one thing I said when they asked if I would move in with them, was that I got my own bathroom. The shower was shared, but the toilet was MINE! I always knew when someone had been in there. I felt very violated. Of course, there is a story or ten behind that.

Having only one bathroom in this house, I am having trouble sharing even with just Duckling. When her father uses my bathroom (or mother. She is gross too) I practically put on a Hazmat suit to clean! IDK what I am going to do when Duckling is using the bathroom all by herself.

Some intensive training will be happening. Though it already is.

I don't try to guess parentage until much later. Too many changes happen.
