Oh, I know that. (which is why i'm going to try to get my hubby to check for me.) I don't know how you guys take pictures of eggs being candled. But i'm glad the pictures exist, because it's the only reason I knew we had 2 viable eggs out of the 6, and 1 managed to hatch!

Although.... once the chick filled the entire egg... we couldn't see crap anymore the egg shell from our chicken was so thick. I was almost afraid she wouldn't be able to get out!

We never could see a heart beat, or any of the more obvious signs of life. We saw veins, and then the egg got completely dark besides the aircell. (But, since the changes were drastic, every few days, I figured the egg was viable.)

I'm really not sure what i'm looking at though, even after looking at pictures of other eggs, I just don't have enough experience yet.
I use a bright flashlight and a dark room. Good luck with your new eggs.

This is an easily read and understood conversation about FRIZZLE GENE, @BantyChooks

Awesome link/explanation. I'm going to give my kids a lesson on genes today, using some of this since my daughter wants frizzles in her flock.

Quote: have a link ? I asked for my kid to rig a radio to the motion lights so that music would instantly blare when something was in the area, but he said I am dumb and would wake the entire mountain doing something like that!!! ughhhhh

That's what we use... and I still had trouble. Maybe it's because of the eggs being super thick?
Our bathroom linen closet area is where we would do it, after turning the lights off. My daughter and I would do it with her dad, since he's the only one who could hold the eggs right with the light to get it to shine through properly.

I can't figure out how to do it. :(

I admit it. I'm a flash-light failure.

I was thinking of investing in one of those flash lights designed for candling eggs, to see if it helped me.

I'll post a pic later tonight of how I do it.

I should have gotten a pic of the embryo with its feet against the side of the shell.... That was SO cool.
