@DwayneNLiz Morning, to you too.

She'll be 6 in dec. She's obsessed with bugs. And frogs, lizards... and chickens. She's the ENTIRE reason we have chickens, and that we keep getting more chickens, and now turkey's and ducks.

Her brother last night was begging me NOT to get ducks (he's almost 13) because he's scared the turkey's will chase him. LOL Poor kid's been traumatized by wild geese at the park that chase him everytime he's gone to the local lake.... and "turkey's are bigger"

I promised him I wouldn't get a goose.

This was one of my arguments to my husband, on why duck eggs would be perfect for us :

Quote: I have to make a lot of stuff from scratch because of eating gluten-free. :eek: and I can't even eat Mayo and I love mayo... it would be nice if I could eat Mayo made out of duck eggs! ;o

My dogs are really good with the birds. My billygoat however, is not nice to my dogs. I was trying to let the dogs sleep out in the goat pen last night, and my billy attacked them, and chased them away. :hmm

So... they slept out in the front part of the yard with the juvie coops. The only reason we got great pyr's, was to protect the birds, rather than the goats....

And no... never... I would *never* encourage my daughter to ask for more animals.... even though she asked for a pony and got told yes, and I asked for a pony and got told I was too old to ask santa for a pony....

*innocent face.*

we're a great team

didnt you end up with your own pony?
i dont like my dog most days, but she is a good cuddle bug and foot warmer

One of the things I'll be teaching the great pyr's to do, is look up and watch for hawks and other aerial predators. They use footballs, to teach the dogs to spot flying animals that might prey on the babies/livestock. That's our goal over the next few weeks.

The first part of their training was crate training them (because they can get really protective of family, and I need to be able to safely transport them so they don't kill anyone in case of an emergency.) and teaching them to come when called.. (to a point, great pyr's aren't great at recall.) along with training them to walk the yard with me and teaching them our yard boundaries, and where everyone goes, so they know who belongs to us.

They don't mind the little chiauhaha (Can't spell that dog breed to safe my life.) down the street when he comes to visit, but they chased off a pit bull when she came into our yard and was interested in the chicken coop.

I'm really pleased with them.

I ended up getting a horse for mothers day. She was elderly, and doesn't really like to be ridden too much. She had a leg injury as a baby, and is 18. I do ride her occasionally... but I'll admit, that having horses isn't nearly as fun for me as the birds.

My daughter works with her pony 1-2 hours a day, so for her, it's worth it to have a pony. My horse really is more of a companion for the pony.

My problem is when I do ride, I never actually get to "ride" ride... so less fun for me. I always end up with a kid on the horse with me, and babycakes doesn't like to "go". she does one loop around the pasture and then wants to be left alone to eat. LOL
