Put one of those swing things for a toddler by the arena/pen while you ride/work your horse.
Yeah, that wouldn't really work. My oldest is 12 and special needs too. The toddler can climb out of anything, and has a penchant for water buckets. So he needs constant supervision while outside, and my oldest, if left unattended, will do stupid stuff like pull a branch off the fig tree, and whack his brother/sister in the face with it and not understand how it's dangerous to do that.

I only ride when my husband's right there to hold the baby, and supervise the other kids together. my oldest is terrified of horses, so he has no desire to ride.

@DwayneNLiz Dog math is a thing, too. My daughter wants one of those little ankle biters (chihuahua) but I really don't want anymore dogs. I'm happy with the terrier that came with our house when we bought it, and our great pyr's at this point. Plus, the dog down the street comes and visits and eats our dog food.

What's funny, is after dealing with chickens for a while, I actually REALLY like spending time with them. I don't mind my dogs, but something about hanging out and just watching the chickens be chickens, is far more entertaining. ;o I've been tempted to put up a wireless cam in the coop/free range area, so I could watch them from inside the house. haha
