I am new here and I don't know if I am posting in the right place. I have a question. I am hatching today and he one out. I have 2 incubators and was going to put chicks in one once they hatch so not to disturb the ones still inside shell. When putting a chick in the incubator I noticed a smell of pinesol. Not strong but I can smell it. Is this safe or should I put the chick back with the other eggs that are not hatched?
Welcome!

I'm not certain if the pinesol odor is harmful or not, I'd leave the chick in with the others, and work on rinsing the other incubator and see if you can get the smell out.

Thanks for the information last weekend about the root killer for trees. I managed to get the roots out of the concrete piping and now I'm leaving the joint exposed so roots won't readily go back and I can pull apart if they do.
I had a blocked line to the septic tank. I rented a device to clear it but to no avail. I had to bring in a company to do it with a power roto rooter type machine. It was over the 50' cable I had originally used. I think he got it clear at about 75'. I had the RootX ready after he finished. I gave it a second treatment about 6 months later. I'll probably do so every 2 years. If the septic system fails, it can't be legally replaced. The house will have to be tied into the sewer system. That would require about a 500' run and under 2 roads. There's no way I could afford that.

Healthy umbilicus!

Internal pip to hatch in less than 24 hours - no assist, so might be worth keeping this one.

That's right, I forgot that you had those (CRS syndrome).

Hope she hatches all and that she is a good mom to them!

Haven't noticed a correlation between hatch weight and sex, but at about two weeks there might be, as in anything over a certain weight is almost certainly male.

-Kathy
They sure do grow faster but I haven't tracked hatchling weight with eventual sex. I doubt there's any discernable difference at hatch. It's more about egg weight.

What do I do I
Lots of plats for cover.

Question??? My chick chick I thought was a male but it has no waddle.... Is Chick Chick a boy or girl?
Breed? Age?

they all except one I wasn't ready for babhs
what are babhs?

One sheet of siding short of finishing the back; has to be lifted straight up 'cause the scaffold's in the way of laying it down, and no help at the moment. One end's done. Going to rearrange the door locations on the front, That'll be last, except for finishing & papering the roof. In other words, still a lot to do, and I can't do most of it alone. DW, all 4'10" of her, has helped me put up a couple sheets, but that's a bit much for a woman that size.
I feel your pain. Building projects progress slowly around here and only in fits and spurts.

In my defense, there's no such thing as a nap. LOL my toddler would probably burn my house down, or break all the windows....or some other such destruction. :(

How they managed to squeeze into a box this small, I'll never know.

With two babies, you have to keep everything on the opposite side of the table... or... this happens :

She thought it was hilarious that her brother painted himself with food.... I hope she doesn't get any funny ideas.

my daughters cat on the other hand, has the right idea. She hides in the most obvious places and hopes no one looks for her.... of course, then they proceeded to dump her out of the box and take her spot... since she gave them the idea... but hey, if it works for a cat.. it has to work for a kid... right?
I think when our children are that age we age two years for every one because of the amount of constant attention required.

Apparently, hammering and knocking stuff around makes the girls not lay. I only have six out of 12 chicken eggs. Okay, eleven. One is still being momma.
The SPR pen is done and bedding has been added.

I put so much bedding in the other side, I was able to move enough to cover the small pen. Tomorrow I will see how I can make the pop door more secure (I have an idea) get the mobile run in place, and fix the main door to the building. Then fix the lock on the other pop door.
I was going to pen the turkey with them just to keep her contained. Hmm. Maybe not.
My production is way down. Most are molting. Out of the 10 hens left from spring I was down to about 3 eggs a day and I think one of those has quit.
Olive egger rarely misses a day now but she quit for almost 2 months this summer. I'll probably be averaging an egg or two a day out of the 10 till the pullets start laying.
I have 3 that just hit 5 months, 2 that are 4 months and a bunch of various younger ages.
I should start getting a few more eggs in the next month and a bunch of eggs by Christmas.

Turkeys are the sweetest! Mine follow me around like dogs even though I didn't handle them very much.

A friend of mine had 2 turkeys along with various chickens, ducks, dogs, parrots, etc. in the suburbs.
Whenever she went to the bank they wouldn't help her until she went back home and brought her turkeys to visit.
They would occasionally fly around the neighborhood and she'd get a call saying things like your swans are here or your ostriches are on my porch.

Same friend with the bank turkeys does Canada goose management at office parks, schools and cemeteries.

Welcome to BYC!

Quick search results say no Pine Sol around birds.

How can restarting a computer take longer than shutting it down, then turning it back on?!
Updates?

For all the coffee I've dumped on it, it should either be shaking like a leaf, or running marathons!

I'm starting to wonder if BYC uses a random system to pick POW winners.... I keep getting some sub-par pics of mine chosen, and I can't figger it out.

What's a POW winner?

Ok, thank you. So it is safe for this chick to play soccer with the others? Lol
It's what they do.

I don't think pine-sol is a good idea.
If needing cleaning I first use Lysol spray, scrub and rinse, then a bleach solution, rinse thoroughly and dry in the sun.

X2,i absolutely adore my turkeys! My first group i handled all the time but my second group not quite as much. Most of them are very affectionate. I have 2 hens that love to be held and cuddled (one comes in for a hug every time you squat down and open your arms). And two toms who want snuggled or held constantly lol. But almost all of them want attention all the time.

Cuddles on my lap

There tends to be lap jeolousy. Cuddles hiding her head from Eve

Romeo and Dinner taking over my lap. It's seriously hard to get pictures with two toms on you!

They love any attention they can get and the kids love giving it

Before they were too big to do it anymore, they preferred the shoulders

Eve, my origional lap turkey. She feels that I belong to her and will defend me if necessary lol
that is awesome
what breed are they?

Oh ****. I woke up to it DOWN pouring this morning. I'm going to have to check on the baby chicks and maybe bring them back inside?

Hubby checked on them last night and had to rescue them at like 1am. The thunderstorm freaked them out and they were running around inside their pen panicking... he moved them back inside their shelter, to show them where to go... but he said "these are the dumbest group of chickens I've ever seen."
