So far so good with our classroom incubation (Brinsea Mini Advance, locally-sourced Ameraucana eggs, one clear and one quitter ~day 6 so we have 5 left.) We candled yesterday early Day 18 and all 5 still looked great. We prepared for lockdown EXCEPT I forgot to turn off the automatic cooling feature
It goes off first thing in the morning so I could easily get there Monday to stop it, but it will go off on Day 18 and 19 over the weekend (we set eggs in the afternoon, so Day 18 runs Fri around 2pm-Sat around 2pm.
Do I need to freak out about this and try to get access to the school over the weekend? Or will it be ok for the eggs to cool for an hour on Day 18/19 if Monday morning I rush in and turn it off before it goes off Day 20/21?
My jaw is killing me this morning.....although it could be worse..... As hard as the dentist was pulling on that tooth I'm surprised my jaw works at all.
@Akrnaf2 . Most people like a pineapple glaze with chunks or a curry sauce (I don't mind the glaze, but prefer the pineapple uncooked), cornbread is a popular side like was mentioned. It is a sweeter meat dish.

I hate pineapple anything. being allergic to it probably doesn't help LOL
I like brown sugar or maple glazes for my hams, we usually eat it warmed up, with veggies, and a side dish of either rice, or cornbread, depending on what we have sitting around when we cook. I am a big fan of pairing it with Ceasar salad, because the ham goes well with salads, in my opinion.
it's not really worth showing lol.we used what fence we had and the flooding made the run solid dirt instead of grass.and all our chickens are together except our silkoes.
This is seriously harder than having my own babies... way more stressful! tell me it gets better! chick 5 that i helped was well and truly dried out and stuck to the membrane. I took the shell off, but there is still membrane stuck on the chick... what do I do about that? chick is still in the bator.
why do you think your silkie failed to do his job? (curious, since i'm starting a silkie flock) I was reading that they recommend trimming silkie's vents and the boy rooster's area so he can breed easier.
I wasn't sure if that was just recommended, or actually made a huge difference. LOL
Stop. I opened an egg at 25 days once with a chick that was about to hatch. I thought I was doing an eggtopsy and obviously the chick died.
If I don't have a reason to do otherwise, I just leave them in the incubator.
The first two chicks hatch these are mine the last one of the serama eggs hatched and died so no serama at all left so I posted an IOS ad on craigslist and we'll see if anyone has any or not.
and Buried he two that hatched and died. But out of the 14 eggs only two had made it close to hatching.
This is my first forum ever! so tell me If i am doing this wrong please.
It's day 24 about half way through... if the themometer was reading wrong and my bator was cooler than i thought, can the chicks in the remaining 6 eggs still have the strength to hatch??
my 5th chicky is really sticky... like its been dipped in egg white and allowed to dry all over. ive been bathinh with warm water and q tip but its soooo hard... i dont want to hurt it. any suggestions?
Albumen covered chicks can be from low temperature, high humidity, improper turning, extra large eggs or older eggs. Since yours are hatching so late, I'd say your temps were 2-3 degrees low or lower throughout.
yeah ok... dont know if they are much help for pollination... honey bees or our native aussie bees work best here. we plant marigolds round the garden...and lavender, seems to attract the good guys for pollination.
Natives tend to be the best pollinators for indigenous plants. Some flowers don't attract honey bees either because they're shaped wrong or not numerous enough. Honey bees need vast numbers of flowers. They love flowering trees in spring.
Ahhhhhhh that was halarious!!!! I could only imagine one of those in my yard... I have family over there in Cambara( don't know if that is spelt right) I want to visit so bad but with 4 kids that's kind of hard.

Iove a good ceaser salad. I will just pick up some anchovy paste when I go to the feed store. I may make sweet potatoes or be bad and make cornbread which I love with honey
