Ok eggs in the bator...now im realizing how many dumb questions I have....help.....

Ok so I have an auto turner in my hovabator with a fan, do I need to turn the eggs ever at all?

How do you decrease humidity in a bator? I live in south carolina, and its always humid...

And if I have chicks hatch before the others, but the others are in lock down, what do you do??? Not staggered hatch, just a day or three before and after each other kind of deal?

28 eggs in the bator.....im aiming for 20 hatched but I dont know how many are even fertile so ill be happy if one hatches lol

As long as the turner works you don't need to turn them. You should take it out at lockdown time.

I've heard that adding a sock of rice can help lower humidity if absolutely necessary. Let your bator run with no added water and see what the natural humidity is, then try and keep it around 35%.

If a couple chicks hatch early just leave them in unless the start knocking the other eggs around. In that case pull them out as quickly as you can. They can live on the absorbed yolk for a couple days.

I'm sure you'll get the more experienced answers, but here's what I've learned.
Auto turner if working properly does not require you to turn them. Set it and forget it.
Decreasing humidity requires running dry- no water in the incubator.
Some people leave the chicks in the incubator and some remove them as the hatch progresses. It depends on pips really. You don't want to open the incubator if there are a bunch of pips trying to get zipped.
Good luck!

New Q; put eggs in a box with heat/light 30-40% hmid.temp range 80-100°.(a week ) THEN got LG incubator. It stabilized at 99.5°, but humid was 80%. Not very long. How much Flux can they take at this age? Can i drown at 3 days gest? At what day to they HAVE to be stable? Why can't you open a crack at lock down? Or remove chicks to warming box? If my hen has been on and off the 4 -3 day old others
(she has one bb chick)should I try to incubate those? She'd rather play with bb than set

Humidity is not a set number. They can't drown at day 3, but you'll have to watch air cells to make sure they're growing.
Good luck!

Stability is best throughout of course, but we sometimes have to make adjustments, so dont fret over it too early. Just get it stable asap and keep it there.
There are varying opinions on opening during lockdown. I take mine out as they dry, or during a lull in the action. Others leave them in until all hatchers are done. Others take them out while they are still wet. You have to decide what works for you. There are reasons for any decision... dangers in the bator if you leave them, or if you take them out. Is your LG one where the fan is exposed? I've heard of them getting into the fan, so take that into consideration.

As far as momma, if you feel she isn't going to complete the process, and you want the chicks, then I'd put them in the bator. If you don't mind them not hatching, and you want to give her the chance, then you could leave them with her longer.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Hello everyone! I am new to incubating and i am on day 18 we are in lockdown!!! I have 5 eggs of 2 silkies, 1 silkie/cochin mix, 1 maran cross, and a light brown surprise egg. I'm using a FarmInnovator incubator with current readings at 64% humidity and 100degrees. I have a spinge with water and a wet rag in the bator to keep humidity up.

From advice I had found with the Bantams in the mix (hatching earlier), I actually locked down yesterday around 5 pm. Will the bantams actually pip earlier?

Any suggestions on the next couple days? I'm trying to occupy myself but have a hard time walking away.

Yes mymillie! I now have 21! 29 went into lock down, I have a few more in there, will see what happens.

I posted some on the Halloween hatch a long. :) But, there are more now..22!
