Next time, candle the egg after sniffing, if you are not sure put it back. Its not your fault, sometimes hens arent the brightest critters tjI am hoping I didnt kill her/him by not putting it back?

I'm afraid you're going to continue having feed wasted; the birds will most likely fling the feed out. Next time, use a "Y" fitting at the bottom, with about a 2" extension on the feeding side. That will cause the birds to have to reach further to get to the feed and they can't rake it out & slop it all over the floor. My feed waste is non-existent now.

The garbage can yeah you'd have to support it somehow.. and then cleaning once in awhile would be a hassle
me too, guess I would have to frame out the bottom of the can for a full 100lb bag of feed.
