Good afternoon little yule is doing good healthy and strong. I would have been on earlier but I hit the ground running this morning had coyotes try to take a chicken at 6:30 and my mem was driven by as I was on my way out the door to go after it she said it was the funniest thing she has ever seen me w a rifle in one hand and a flashlight in the other running down across the field in my skivvies thank god she was the only one out at that hour lol on my egg update I have a external pip so hopefully by tonight I'll have another chick and then I have to wait a whole nother week for the two other eggs

Howdy, whites!

Tried catching up on the posts, and read back about 5 pages... of the same old same old. I think my patience is wearing thin...

I don't wonder. We all have the same problem. Like trying to reason with a brick wall.

If you see big veins, then the chicks are not ready to hatch just yet. They will absorb the yolk, pull the blood out of the veins, and only then will they try to hatch out. If you're leaving to go away for a week, you should either turn off the incubator and toss the eggs in the woods for the critters to eat, or find someone who can look after any chicks that might possibly have survived. After that, you should take a nice long break from incubating eggs, and perhaps try again in the spring or summer. You're making too many mistakes, and worrying far too much to be trying to hatch eggs right now. I think you... and when I say you, I mean we... need a break. Have a safe trip, CH.
I'm not Gonna kill the chicks

So I candled today ton day 18. I have 7 that I think have a good chance at hatching, 3 maybes and 4 others that were just hard to tell because if they died it was later in incubation. So I'm on lockdown now! Want just one little chick

Can everyone remember their very first hatch? Is it always this scary? Or does it get easier?

Anser to your questions, yes, no, yes.

News flash- I talked with my neighbor, and asked about her incubator. She said it holds temp and humidity well, and has had several sucsessfull hatches! :ya ANDDD I said I could supply her with fertile eggs, so she will keep me posted on if she decides to do a HAL with me. :yesss:
she has a good place to keep chicks overwinter, unlike me!!!!

I hope this all works out, and we get some chicks :fl

I'm not Gonna throw away and kill the baby's.
I don't mean this ugly, CH, but I think you've done a pretty good job of doing just that so far. You know better than to open the bator during lockdown, and you candled the eggs during lockdown??? This isn't your first try to incubate, but you're acting like you forgot everything you learned from the first time. It takes practice to get good at it, and it takes patience and self-control to be successful. You are not being patient and letting the chicks do what chicks have been doing for eons. You aren't keeping your hands out of the bator during lockdown, and if you're lucky, the chicks will only be shrink-wrapped. I can't figure out why you're acting like you've never done this before. Do you remember the problems you had with the chicks legs the last time? I have a feeling you're going to have a lot more problems if any of these eggs hatch. You started with how many eggs? How many are left in the bator? How many or those appear to still be alive? That's not a good record, which means that any chicks that (somehow) manage to hatch are more than likely going to have some serious problems. I'm not saying that it's a 100% bust this time, but I think you need to be prepared in case the worst happens... which is no chicks from this hatch. I don't want to sound mean, but sometimes you need to know where to draw the line. When I have things go wrong, and nothing seems to work, I back up and start over. Sometimes a fresh start is all you need to do something right. Okay???
