I got a generator after ours went out for 2 days last February on day 14 of my duck incubation. Hubby was out of town and temps were below zero, and all I had was a wood stove.

I have 6/7. I waited until the last one hatched then checked on the zipped one and it was dead.

5 Silkies and 1 LF chick. 3 are still drying. Here's the first 3. The first to hatch was the only vaulted skull Silkie (top right).

Last 3. Last one is the dark one.

Now 1 week wait for the next batch in this staggered hatch.

Caught up!

Thanks - spoiler added!

I don't know - how would I work out whether there was bacteria present?

Welcome. With my eggs, there was honey like fluid. But Sally may be right with temps, sometimes they just quit. :(

Several hundred posts to catch up on, did I miss anything important? :th
You all are killing me with those chick pictures! I ''need'' some chicks now!

@All, Just out of curiosity, what do you do with all these chicks you hatch? Do you keep them all, or sell them?

Keep usually, have never sold a chicken before. Have given some away to BYCers and friends...

I am really curious- how old is everyone? And where are you located? I'm 27 and in Kansas, USA

Im Under 21 and in northern CA

I am one of the younguns like prizepete and chicken hawk... Under 21. I'm in MI.

The light ones look like they could be splash? Love the splash. :)

I'm not sure... I just assumed they are going to be white when they get older... These are the first baby silkies I've ever hatched or have seen. There was a white roo and a splash roo in with two blue or black hens. I'm not quite sure how to tell if the hens are black or blue... They look black but I was told they were blue.
