Hey everyone! My 29th and probably final chick hatched around 5am this morning. I though I would be taking a hatching break and then I find out my father in law won 8+ Phoenix hatching eggs from Ebay. They are due to arrive next week! Yay! I'm nervous and excited. I'll unplug the bator tonight and do an eggtopsie I think. Then it'll be time to sanitize and start collecting eggs again.

Look at this blue barred EE!!! My fav for sure!

I've got to go down and install a light fixture on the other side of the brooder so the older chicks will have a little more light. I think they get enough light spilling in from the other side of the brooder, but the wife doesn't seem to agree with that. So we compromised... and I get to install another light. I also need to finish connecting the wiring going to the coop and install a deicer in the water bucket. I also have to replace a section of plywood the wiring and conduit will run through going into the basement. I also have to... ugh... I may be gone a little while.
Well got the light installed and started to replace the piece of plywood that was rotting on the bottom beside the basement door. Turns out to be much worse than I thought. The entire bottom of the frame is rotted out, and termites were eating into the frame all the way to the top. Fortunately, it's a wooden frame surrounded by brick. Will have to replace all of it, which means a trip to Lowe's 20 miles away. Could have been worse is suppose, but the damage is contained to one section of the doorway. Gonna take longer than anticipated...

@JandTRanch... here are some pics of the HPC:

The duplex:

My #1 pullet got over to the side with the 1 day olds. Size comparison between a 1 day old chick and (almost) 4 week old chick:

Looks like the baby is mimicking the older bird's action, but it was actually plucking it's tail feathers!

One last pic of the duplex:

Chick died. Looks like he absorbed the yolk sack and everything. He did have the green poop stuff stuck to his butt, but it was neon green. I don't know if that had something to do with it. Either that or the yolk burst, but I don't know. We pulled it open after he was obviously not breathing or moving or anything. He never burst through air cell, and was positioned correctly.

Always Compromise with your Wife Ur. Never argue, just accept. If she doesn't like something, compromise. You might still get injured in the process though.

I've got 11 lil babies, and I'm happy as can be. 11/14 is awesome. Now the hard part happens. I have to give them away. I have a couple families that want some, and I don't really want crossbreeds anyway. I want some purebred chickens. Gonna go egg shopping online later. Dad is not happy that my mom agreed to it.
