I tried it once with a rectal thermometer and got several different results in just a matter of minutes (102-105), so I called UC Davis and asked them how to take the temp of a bird and they told me that rectal temps are unreliable, but didn't offer any alternatives. Figured I'd try to see if I could get more reliable results under the wing.

I hope you were careful and not get your oral thermometers mixed up with the chicken's rectal thermometers. Just saying...    

You're probably going to get more stable readings checking under the wings, which should be closer to internal temps as long as the wings have been folded for awhile.  

I use DH's

Just curious and really am looking for a decent baseline on healthy birds. Then next time I have a sick one, it will be interesting to see what it's temp is.
