Good morning everyone!!

@cliffoco Congrats on your 15 babies!

@Hawk12 Yay for your babies too! I should have figured out from your screen name that you were a Seahawks fan lol!

@chicken hawk 33 So happy to see those babies are finally hatching! You've done a great job :)

Thanks everyone for your support through my hatch. My hatch came to an end last night about 2:45 in the morning. I came out to check on the baby who had pipped a big hole but wasn't making progress and found it didn't make it :-( DIS. I opened it up and the yolk was still unabsorbed- about quarter size in diameter was visible. Hard to see them get so close and not make it :-(
I pulled the remaining day 22 Marans egg and my ee egg to candle. EE no signs of life or movement. Feet visible by air cell. Not sure why it quit.
The other Marans egg- no internal pip no movement or signs of life. It's still in the bator, I need to float test it but it doesn't look good.

So- a little disappointed but I do have these 3 little sweeties :) 2 Marans and 1 mutt lol.

They're in their temporary brooder til the weather improves on Wednesday, then I'll move them to the brooder in the coop. I'll try to get some good pics today :)
I'm crossing my fingers for some marans..splash I hope! Congrats!

And a good morning it is...I woke up!
You sound bright-eyed & bushy-tailed this morning. Well....bright-eyed, anyway

I am not bright eyed even after all this time, trust me. I cant tell you how many times I was hollard at last night playing bingo with the kids for not paying attention!!!! they kept wanting to throw dads tablet away!! I KEEL THEM WITH TICKLES ME THREATEN OVER AND OVER, AND THEN I must have SPILT the dumb cheap cardboard tray that holds the numbers three times!

Sounds like you're breeding horses!

lol..have you not seen a paint silkie? Here is a photo...and, I love me a Paint Horse!

Are you using a big plastic tub? My hubby always swears I'm going to burn the house down if I try to use anything plastic with a heat lamp. I put mine in a large glass aquarium & he still worries that the heat lamp is going to somehow causes problems.

Oh course, he is known to be a worrier!
Oh, don't forget to point out why you have paper towels down instead of shavings or something else. A talk about splay leg would be appropriate about now, don't you think

Nope....I even tapped....nothing...I think my silkies are no more....they were shipped eggs so even so it was a good learning experience but I was hoping for some babies....

awwww ok make sure you check all of them and then do the float test MAKE SURE you read it and know what your looking for before you start! its always in the steps in : Step by Step Guide to ASSISTED Hatching - BackYard Chickens Community

**IF** however YOU DO NOT HAVE AN INTERNAL PIP AND YOU CAN’T HEAR CHIRPING and YOU DO NOT see MOVEMENT please proceed to The Float Test ~ Checking Egg Viability. Give Eggs A Full 24 Hrs Overdue Before Float Testing ONLY AFTER CANDLING and NO Internal pips and NO internal MOVEMENT or CHIRPING! This procedure takes very little equipment Or time to do and Is Easy To Perform. If your egg is still viable, place back in the bator and wait! https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/383525/float-testing-checking-egg-viability-for-late-or-overdue-hatching

Heat lamps terrify me, too. For instance, if the hardware cloth in the picture above gave way and the lamp fell into the tub during the night, the paper towels and tub would catch fire. That's why I paid more and got a Sweeter Heater. There are other brooder heat plates out there that are a little cheaper, but I also like having a 3 year warranty. I'll pay a little extra for peace of mind. Just saying...

I have to, I sell and I have to sterilize. I purchase these walmart online in a pack of 4-6 cheap, I cut the lids back and bend the wire. I use 60 watt light bulbs in the lamp in the one corner. no melting lol its on wire!!! its only getting to 100-110 at most in that corner.

What I like is I can grab another tub set it up switch the chicks into the new one, and clean the old one out no biggy!

paper towels yes for splay legs, but I also use them while I have them in the house, its less dust, I just put a few layers down with a layer of wax paper between them and then rollup one layer at a time each day if I am lazy and dont want to do the entire switch a roo of the brooder. lazy cheat cleaning! but when they get bigger they get stinky quicker so once a day is a must, and the wax paper is cheap! and it keeps the wetness off the next layer of paper towels!

I'll give it a good read and do the float test, maybe I'm wrong and something good comes of it....or I might just have to wait until spring :( praying for babies still....
