I have to, I sell and I have to sterilize. I purchase these walmart online in a pack of 4-6 cheap, I cut the lids back and bend the wire. I use 60 watt light bulbs in the lamp in the one corner. no melting lol its on wire!!! its only getting to 100-110 at most in that corner.

What I like is I can grab another tub set it up switch the chicks into the new one, and clean the old one out no biggy!

paper towels yes for splay legs, but I also use them while I have them in the house, its less dust, I just put a few layers down with a layer of wax paper between them and then rollup one layer at a time each day if I am lazy and dont want to do the entire switch a roo of the brooder. lazy cheat cleaning! but when they get bigger they get stinky quicker so once a day is a must, and the wax paper is cheap! and it keeps the wetness off the next layer of paper towels!
I love the tubs..which I could fine a clear..I am using a red one right now. They can't see out. When I put them outside, they just stand there, and look around terrified. Poor babies. They get over it pretty quick though. I do hold them while inside, and put them down and look around..with that scared terrified look. I will keep looking for a clear tub. Helps a bit that they can see out. I also use a wire on top. I make sure it is on solid, I bend the wire down around the top so that it slides back and forth, won't slide off.

Sounds like a great plan to me! Much quicker & less stressful way to keep their environment clean too!
Heat lamps terrify me, too. For instance, if the hardware cloth in the picture above gave way and the lamp fell into the tub during the night, the paper towels and tub would catch fire. That's why I paid more and got a Sweeter Heater. There are other brooder heat plates out there that are a little cheaper, but I also like having a 3 year warranty. I'll pay a little extra for peace of mind. Just saying...
Ur, you sound like my husband. LOL But, please, tell me more about the Sweeter Heater. I haven't heard of it before.

lol..have you not seen a paint silkie? Here is a photo...and, I love me a Paint Horse!

I've probably seen a paint silkie & didn't know what I was looking at. If you like paint horses you'd have loved my b&w filly...dual registered Spotted Saddle Horse/Tennessee Walker. Unfortunately killed by lightning, along with my bay TWH gelding several years ago.

Lightening! That is sad! Yes, the black and white are my favorite paints. Any photos on hand?

Brilliant idea using the wax paper between layers! I like it, I like it!

Oh, I like the wax paper idea too. I will have these babies in for a while once they hatch. Will have to try. I use the kitchen liner stuff right now. Shavings under that until they get bigger, then I take the liner out.

Had a grey tub once.

No, no photos except one, & it's in a frame on top of the entertainment center. Wasn't big on taking pictures then; ain't now, either. I've had several horses here over the years, but she was the only one I broke myself to the point of being able to ride. She was my baby; after I lost her, it was never quite the same.
