INCUBATING w/FRIENDS! w/Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs No problem!

This is my first call to hatch. My last hatch didn't go well at all. Both hatches were shipped eggs though. I had another one trying to hatch, but it was still alive one minute, and a few minutes later it was gone. It looked really pretty too. Next time I'll know not to freak out when the veins aren't absorbing as quickly as they would with a chick.

Ugh... Calls are hard to hatch from local or own eggs, shipped are an absolute nightmare... keeping :fl for your little one...

Thanks! I figured out I have to catch them when they pip internally before they die in the shell. I had 24 eggs, and only have one to show for it, but half of them were tiny eggs that would've never hatched.

need to look at the direction of sunlight air flow of their operation and copy it . this cannot be without reason. question same feed?  feeding habits watering habits? duplicate  theirs the results should be similar. and then the is the personal factor if they love you they will do  better for you . some people baby their chickens . I'm a whip and chair guy am constantly saying KFC is just round the corner  and roasting chickens close to them to give them the ideal. what will happen if they quit working .and say your next . doesn't work but worth a try .:lau

The sunlight is where I think I've gone wrong with my Orpington's. I'll be moving them this weekend to a pen that gets better lighting and see what happens. I've threatened the chicken pot pie thing but it hasn't worked. They hatched 4-7-15 so nine months old now but their pen is relatively shady. One egg every other day out of a breed that's supposed to like laying in the winter out of six hens. Hmmm either that or they really don't like laying in the winter or they are just too young. Too many possibilities when it comes to chickens.
Another thing to figure into the equation is predators in the area. They may not be getting the chickens but they could be scaring them.

Good morning everyone hope Saturday is going well. No sun here yet and raining

Mornin! :frow

Ran into some MORE problems..... Setting postponed till sunday.... Unless I finally give up and just do it... :barnie
Bator is being very good though, adjusting and holding temps nicely.

I've never grafted my plants. Looked into it. And have bought grafted plants. I had mixed results....some years are growing season is not very good. I've actually seen snow in every month...so when you get snow in July and August don't matter what your growing. My point in saying that is that the year I planted the grafted tomato plants was one of those crappy growing seasons. I may try again. My friend actually has the seed for the root stock.
I love this! We used to live in a townhouse where our only yard was a 30 X 10 patio. I love growing tomatoes too (@sally sun- something else to distract me during lockdown!)! One year, I grew 54 different types....all in CONTAINERS! My husband called it Jurassic Park. This past September we moved to our dream house on a half acre- we're in Southern California, 15 miles inland from Malibu- 1/2 acre here is equivalent to 20 for the rest of the country! Lol. Everyone keeps bragging (a bit prematurely I might say) about the garden I'll have, considering all my 'land'. I have to admit, I'm having a bit of stage fright! I can grow anything in a pot, but the ground is another story! Such pressure!!! Lol. I, too, put a hefty seed order in to add to the seeds I saved from last year- my artichoke crowns went in two weeks ago and the garlic and onions 3 weeks ago...not bad for picking random places in the yard! We need to add raised bed building to our building of the supercoop plan!

What hubby doesn't seem to realize is the emergent need for both to get done ASAP!!! Give me your top 10 tomatoes, @LittleLakePhil!
Mine have been:
1. Jaune Flamme
2. Black Krim
3. Cusalito
4. Carmello
5. Hillbilly
6. Lillian's Yellow
7. Frosted Green Grape
8. Aunt Ruby's
9. Blondkopfchen
10. Sungold (kid's favorite

Growing tomatoes is about like growing chickens...once you start....

Totally.... Last year I planted some in one half of my garden..... I sorta fell behind on weeding, but then near frost time I picked em all and found I had gotten 50 pounds of tomatoes from not that much garden.
I was amazed!

Sorry, I was out sick and didn't see the tags in time... I have never given Corid to any of my Calls, even my fave duck who took 3 days to hatch, lol... what I do if I'm worried about them being weak is give them some nutridrench poultry vitamins... straight drops right on the bill, then a bit of plain water to wash it down... don't force it, just dribble it on the top of the tip or along the edges...

Hope the little one makes it...
Well Hey there, stranger. I was beginning to wonder if the earth had swallowed you up; didn't realize you'd been under the weather. You're obviously feelin' some better, or you wouldn't be on here.
Stay well, or get well, whatever you need to do; sure ain't fun being down.
Noticed the new avatar; did't know who it was at first.
