Ok, some good news for me,I am getting my hands on a wine cooler so my plans on he coolerbator are changing slightly, and I took my incubator and put it in a box and I have had no more fluctuations in temps. Time will tell if I actually end up with chicks this time.
love your new avy!!! WINE COOLER SHHHWEEET and a box worked!! awesome pictures please of this BATOR IN A BOX....

I may lose one of my chicks, my daughter spilled some water in the brooder and I didn't realized how much was spilled. So this chick was all wet on it's underside for at least a few hours, I've dried it off but it's basically just laying down and chirping with its eyes closed and it doesn't want to walk around. It walks like a chick does when it first hatches, all low to the ground and wobbly. Poor baby, I'll see how it is in the morning.

If your air cell is ROLLING end to end do not turn for 36-48 hours of the first incubation hours to help air cell re-attach and in some cases are really bad loose air cell should not be turned either, if after 48 hours and you have embryo growth and the air cell is still completely loose, do not turn another 24 hours.

If air cells are saddle shaped but intact (meaning not jiggly) I put them in the turner and begin with the gentle turning or you can turn by hand in the carton by simply tilting side to side, see image below.

TREATMENT AT LOCKDOWN.......
I personally have found that any shipped egg that survives to day 18 lockdown has an awkward but re-attached air cell so I lay my eggs down for hatch. Please refer to day 18 lockdown for more information on why laying eggs for hatching after day 18 is the best way to go.

REMINDER~ Never Set COLD eggs in the incubator.

Yep, got all that, I was just trying to figure out what Local was saying earlier about either turning in the direction of the dip in the saddle, or not turning in the direction of the dip (I couldn't make out which, hence the question). If it doesn't matter (so long as they're fixed), then no worries, I just got confused...

O.K, sports fans,
I've had about all the fun I can handle for one day; heading off to la-la land, hopefully to dream about them 21 chicks .
Y'all have a good night. Behave yourselves, I'll catch ya on the other side
G'nite y'all

Did you get the pictures of the egg in the turner?

Quote: it is a space saver and rod protector for sure. ask him to send me a pic after he makes one please!

@Sally Sunshine here's my update and some questions:

SET ONE:
Local Cream Legbar, day 10. Candled and weighed. They all look great to me, good veins, moving. Air cells look great, weights indicate that I could come down a bit on humidity (Benny and I must be related, see my chart below...
lol.png
). So I'll bring it down from 40% to 35% (which is indeed what you advised to begin with for blue/green eggs). Per aviagen reference, change in 5% RH can effect a 1% change in weight lost over the 18 day period, and I'm currently on track for 10% loss by Day 18, so that seems right. Despite R-Com's dire warnings that it won't hold RH below ambient, it's now holding nicely at 35% (but only 40% ambient, so not too much of a strain).

Here are some candling images. As I had trouble marking the air cells, I photoed each one instead (no, I won't post them all!

). Good veins, good movement. Getting dark in there. Am I imagining it or are the eggs rocking slightly already?

SET TWO:

Shipped Naked Necks with lots of messed up air cells, some detached, some fixed/saddle. Set at 6:30pm last night, today is Day 1, have left unturned upright so far. Just about to do first turn of saddle eggs only. Wasn't sure I understood Local Yokel's comments about direction of turn for saddle eggs, not commented on in shipped eggs section - can you direct me to where that info is (or just tell me what to do
lol.png
)? Also, provided that I'm gentle, should I try to turn more often than three times a day, per the post earlier? (It will be manual turning, so that's a lot of open incubator time, though it comes back to temp quickly). There's the plus of more frequent turning, but the minus of more handling and having the 'bator open more... I may wait until morning to be sure I do it right (instructions said unturned for first 24-36 hours, so I figure that'd be ok...). Especially as I'm fading - I don't want to try to handle them when I'm so tired.

Speaking of tired, I'm going to catch up again on the bajillion posts that have popped up in the past minute. Then to read about quails before bed (got distracted by breeding pen planning last night).

CONCLUSION ~ Shipped eggs
If an egg has a normal intact air cell PLEASE TREAT IT AS A NORMAL EGG!
PLEASE PLEASE READ THE TURNING SECTION of this article FIRST!

For rolling, detached or disrupted air cells
(cells no longer at fat end of the egg but like a bubble level on the long side, rolling or saddle shaped cells), you’ll need to change your hatch plan. These eggs need to sit and settle to room temp 12-24 hours NO TURNING, pointy end down in a Egg Carton to possibly reattach air cells.

For SETTING in the incubator......

If your air cell is ROLLING end to end do not turn for 36-48 hours of the first incubation hours to help air cell re-attach and in some cases are really bad loose air cell should not be turned either, if after 48 hours and you have embryo growth and the air cell is still completely loose, do not turn another 24 hours and recheck.
