I am sorry about the migraines, I feel your pain.I hope you knock all of it out soon.
Quote: make sure you check temps under the lights, our one bator has them too low and I keep eggs away from directly under them. at some point I will cut some alum or cans to put under them, just havent felt the need since I have so many of the to use now.

male or female writer? curious and I am too lazy to pop the pic up from back at the post.

@kwhites634 @fire370 Yeah I laughed. The other option was 50 Shades of Chicken.

My friends know an easy gift for me is either chicken stuff or cookbooks. :)

Hey folks.

I need to clean out the brooder today, but I don't think that's gonna happen. I was lazy (read: it was snowing) when I brought my new birds home a while back and I didn't clean out the carriers, so they didn't get disinfected. Now I have nothing to put the chicks in to clean out the brooder.

I suck at planning ahead.
Hey Raz!!
I need one cleaned too, so when ya finished come have at mine.... chicks need out of the bator.

Some of Chicks that hatched from the recent batch. These are the ones I hatched for a friend.
Red and blue Marks on heads/backs are sharpie to ID different genotypes (and not the bloody result of fighting raptors)

WARNING THESE PICS MAY BE DISTURBING

Yup -they have no feathers

and have harmonyann play dress up

Anyone else having trouble with posts updating this morning? Or is it just my chitty net connection? Laptop seems fine but slow, tablet insists I go back a page and then return.

Hi y'all! My Call duckling that hatched Friday is very active and seems to be doing great. I have 8 Muscovy eggs in lockdown on day 31 right now. I'm really hoping that a few hatch, but they're shipped eggs with pretty rough looking air cells so I'm not too hopeful.

thats it I am going to ask for eggs on my local fb group!!!

I pray her safe and wondrous travels

How do you determine what your hatch rate percentage is? Is it from how many chicks develop? Or how many hatch? Or how many hatch and live?
see they gotcha!!
Just AI'd Faith with some Loki juice. 2 more times and she should be good and bred. Little GSD pups in about 9 weeks.

Thanks Chaos and Fire !
GOOD JOB BENNY!!! early weigh in?

Question... does Tractor Supply sell suture kits?

-Kathy
Kathy, you should have a animal hospital supply house in your area. Ours is for the farmers, ask someone with a big farm where they go for supplies. I asked someone local at a fruit stand they had out front... ours is called hubers animal supply you name it they have it.... and ours is dirt cheap compared to anything online.

I don't have all of my incubators full. I feel like I need to hatch more but I'm only getting an egg every other day.
oh no, someone is gonna buy eggs!

Quote: the fan is not the reason! you had the same issue with the first hatch!!!! over all its better!! you need to rememeber the first and second hatch errors!! you should have learned from them!!
just like when you blamed the bad hatch on washing eggs!! when it was temp issues

Nice hatch Sally!

thanks Mike!

I think this is the closest hatch window I ever had!

I have an Ameraucana egg on day 21 from my own flock and it has a tiny crack in it. The air cell is on the side of the egg by the crack and the chick has developed and is moving. Will it be able to hatch by itself?
Any tips?
are you saying it has internally pipped??? @MicroMaverick

No one ever said, do you guys think I could use foundation or cover up on my lame chicks leg instead of paper tape to keep the others from pecking and grabbing the held up leg?
foundation? can you show how you have it now? did you try a straw cut longwise, I forget how you need to wrap it dax? and is your ankle healed?

Regarding the nudist beach in Bonaire, it was mostly middle aged folks that spent too much time in the sun.

@Sally Sunshine I just keep a light layer of paper tape over the limb from the hock down.. It is still small enough to just get a length and fold it over. I tried a straw and cardboard shoe, but I never could get the joint to straighten out all the way and even after five days as soon as I took it off it pulled it right up to its body and the toes curled limply. I gave up and just keep it covered because it is red black and blue and even blu-kote does nothing to deter the other little pecking pulling meanies. I thought make-up maybe foundation or cover up till it is bigger to get rid of constricting tape.
My ankle is improving. I am down to a brace and today I went from crutch to cane.

wonder if that liquid skin would help? glad its improving!

are you saying it has internally pipped??? @MicroMaverick I can't tell if it's pipped internally since I didn't want to take it out again- I'll have to check tonight though and I'll update.
