Remember REACT? I used to monitor it 4 hrs a day on ch 9 in case someone needed help. I was running a Starduster omni antenna on a tower, and an old underpowered base station ( only put out 2.5 watts) with a lollipop mic. Skip was running pretty heavy one day, when all at once this voice came in "wall-to-wall and ree-top tall". I couldn't hear the other side of the conversation, but I knew there was no emergency just from what I could hear. I was reaching for the mic to run him off the emergency channel (on the off chance that he could actually copy me) when someone else that I could't hear jumped in & told the guy that ch 9 was reserved for emergency use only. The guy responded that the restriction was only valid in the USA. The guy was in Central America, on the water!

Another time, I heard someone trying to get a tow truck. Skip has also heavy that day, & I was pretty sure, from the way he sounded, that he wasn't local, so I didn't go back to him right away. Finally, when nobody else did, either, I keyed up and asked him what the problem was. He came back with "I'm off the road in a sand dune" Well, seein' as sand dunes are pretty rare in MD, I asked him where he was; he came back with "Arizona". I told him I could get a truck to him, but he wouldn't like the charge.

Lmao whites :lau

We have talked to plenty in South America and Russia too!

now where is the fun it that, and another thing shouldn't have to worry about changing, ya take ir or leave it for what it's worth, Advice can be given freely and it's up to the other person to decide if it might work for them or not.

If all else fails and you can't see eye to eye toss down the keg and have some fun while agreeing to disagree and leave it at that.

Dad had a linear< not sure of spelling, but he also talked to different countries occasionally and they would exchange postcards so he could prove to his buddies that he was talking to them. He was somewhat of a *********er
