Oh you. How's puppy momma doing? My foster kitties are gone today and I'm missing having babies around already. I don't know the breed of turkey but it was all white, and probably about 35lbs?
@Sally Sunshine
How's Momma dog getting along? Anything happening yet. If not, she'll likely wait 'til the middle of the night. Do ESS normally need help in whelping?
During my dog breeding years, which were many, I guess my females, Red Setters & English Pointers, probably whelped 100 pups, maybe more, IDK. They were all whelped out of doors, in whatever Ma Nature had in mind for that particular day. Never had to assist one. I did have a few stillborn; VERY few. Along the way, two of my TWH mares delivered foals, one of them in a pouring down storm, outside, in the field, with a perfectly good barn available (which she'd broken out of). Never had to assist a foaling, either.
Lucky? Maybe. Cruel? I don't think so. That was the norm in those days. Not saying it was right or wrong, or that my methods were better or worse, only different. That's just the way it was usually done then, at least in my circles.
I wish you all the luck in the world with your litter; hope momma gives you a whole raft of healthy pups to spoil rotten (not that you'd ever do that)![]()
What generally becomes of your pups? Show? Pet? Hunting? Whatever the case, you've got some fine looking animals.
