Going off topic here but you know what i miss about my chickens? I used to go in that pen and sit down every day with them, and the one whom i love, the brahma got used to me after a couple days and would climb up in my lap and go to sleep. But i hot busy and wasnt able to be in there with them much anymore so now shes skiddish again :(

You might be able to retrain her with treats... just go sit with them and put some meal worms or bread on your lap and see if they will jump up. Winter is always tough for me cause I like to sit with the birds and watch them.. but it is too cold, but I try to hand feed the ones I am extremely fond of when I go out to feed them and clean their coop.

Even if its really cold outside, we built our coop for the winter, i can sit in there and not be too cold. But yeah we have had very little snow this year so i grab grass (which they love) and put it on my lap and theyll usually jump on my and get their food :) only been out once tho. I plan on going out in the mornings and doing it starting tomorrow.

What breeds do you have? Id love to see some pics too!

Love it!! What is the roof? Lexan? Fiberglass..?
Thanks! It's made of SunTuf panels (Solar Grey). The plan called for them, and they are SUPER (and fairly easy to install, even for a building novice like myself). Got 'em at Home Depot.

OK, caught up, so it's time for bed...

Night, everyone!

I am glad!!! he was a mess!!! what all did you do with him then??? did I track him and his treatment in notes? I cant remember!!!
How is the bator?

He got antibiotics from the vet (Baytril) plus pain meds at first. Then semi-regular hydrotherapy sessions (warm baths and blow drying after to get him totally dry) once he was stable, to help with healing of his wounds. Kept him inside a little bit long because we were waiting for the scab on his largest wound to fall off. He's feathering in and per forecast it's not going to freeze in this next week, and he was antsy and unhappy looking inside, so I decided it was time. He's done very well...

With time the humidity works less and less well with the rcoms. I added a wet sponge and put humidity up to max. I think hatching in them is not good for them (like in any bator really).
I finally killed mine by trying to clean out the dander with tweezers. When it says don't put anything metal into them the mean it. It killed the electronics. I still can't see how though

This is good to know - thanks for sharing. Yeah, the manual talks about how to hatch in the R-Com, and then says never to hatch in it, and that if you do, you void the warranty. Which is irritating, because one of the things I like the most is the big open window (plus being totally automated).

OK, really going to bed now, just saw that I'd missed these posts when catching up...

Trying to put my 3 month old silkies in with the adults. Stupid roo thinks hooray, fresh meat. Hens attack, and the roo makes them back off, then tries to mount them. How do I keep the roo from mounting the babies? I think they are girls, but not positive.
