Hi there again. Day 18 lock down on the marans here. Quick question...I have a few with large air cells and a few smaller air cells. Would you suggest 70% as the set humidity? I also had 3 that looked like they could be ED. I left them in just in case? Holy cow we are so excited :ya This is our first attempt at hatching.

Dang it, it would be cheaper to order from Good Shepard! They only want $75 for a pair... and they're already dressed!!!

I'll bet your birds look just as good as the pair at the show. My BR's cost me $2 a dozen!!!

Well I would say those birds were freaking HUGE!!! Dude never seen such big barreds. But still not worth it. Actually they were probably to large for the SOP for barreds.

Well the thing is, no one sells chickens here. We are a small town. But just recenly EVERYONE is wanting chickens. They have a hard time getting them here because of weather. And not many people are prepared for chickens but thinking on it, i'll do what the person buying them wants. If they want me to keep them while they get stuff together, i have no problem doing it. And if they want to take the chicken immediately then i will make sure the know how to take care of it. But like i said, im not gunna make a buisness out of it till i know what im doing.

Very good. Not trying to discouraged you by any means. There is a lot to think about if you want to work for yourself and if you have employees, the stakes go up. At some point you will have to make that decision of hobby or paying bills.

I hope that you are successful no matter the path you take. Good luck!

Congratulations on making this far!

I would average the air cells and decide if I wanted the humidity high or on the lower end of the hatching range. If most of the air cells are large, I'd run around 70-75%. If most are small, I'd run around 60%. If they average close to normal, then 65-70% should suffice. Good luck!!!

Haha. People are crazy here man. But its not that i wouldnt trust a lot of taking care of them, i just dont think they know how to take care of chickens that young. But i might sell them at a younger age. But then again i wouldnt mind holding on to them while they build their coop for the chickens and get things set up. I dont have this 100% figured out so my plans are bound to change. We'll just have to cross that bridge when we get there
I ask questions. Do u have chickens. Do you have heat lamps and a brooder etc. All in all most people even if new can figure it out. It really isn't rocket science. And I always tell them they can text or call any time if they need too.

If they were huge, then you did the right thing by passing on them! Funny... I passed on a BR pullet at a flea market after the seller told me she was fixing to start laying. I was like "really?" She was so small she would have had to lay hummingbird eggs! My 9 week old pullets are as big as she was. Just another example of why I will NEVER... EVER... buy a chicken from a flea market. The Coryza incidence broke me, but the fact that most of the birds at flea markets are culls cements the deal for me. I only wish there were more poultry shows in this area. I would love to see what the area breeders have...
