When you go to the state store bring me some jack please I am just about out.... thanks!
Thanks paddler, never said goodmorning so good morning too!
hope you have a wonderful day today!
ohhhhh!!! how adorable!!!!! you can send him my way any day!! but you cant get him back lol oh wait.... can I get weekends off, and you take my kids too?
Farm emergency! Went out to feed the rabbits and the doe had a baby in there. But it was frozen. No nesting box because the stupid people I got them from never told me she was breed. Had to do a quick fix and put a cardboard box in there for her.
See this is the reason I don't like to deal with people that have a few rabbits and think they are a farmer or breeder. In reality they don't have a dam clue about anything. Man this makes me madd.
Before bed I decided to add a sponge-cloth soaked with water in the incubator to help with the humidity. (Lesson learned - no matter how fancy your incubator, have a back up plan!). That seems to have helps a lot, humidity was 71% this AM - and I woke up to an incubator full of 9 peeping chicks, with one more zipping! I don't know why I bothered with the baskets - they were climbing all over the place, can't tell who is who. So I quickly got the 7 dry ones out and into the brooder. The wrong position ones that pipped are still alive - they are enlarging their pip holes (some movement seen), and one that pipped toward the "floor" was rocking. (I think they were encouraged a lot by being climbed on by the other babies).
I actually have a mild migraine today (probably why I was so tired and confused last night), so I need to go lie back down. But I'm hoping these last little ones make it out on their own. I will re-read the assist article again, of course, but won't be doing anything until this afternoon/evening (which would be about 24 hours). (It's day 21.)
So, 10 babies out, three more pipped in wrong position, unsure about the last two. Babies are resting quietly, tired out from all their spelunking over eggs.
@Sally Sunshine
Meanwhile, one of my bachelor roosters has gotten out of his paddock (again) and gone on walkabout in the yard. (His nickname is Houdini, he can get out of anything.) I can't cope with him today. Yard is fenced and secure, cats can get in, but he'd beat a cat up. I just put food and water out for him and told him to be good, and that if anything came after him while I was inside, he was on his own. More secure paddock is on the list...
Sally, add #48591 to the tao turner. I'll get another video of the whole system on lockdown so you can see how it all drops for hatching. I was pleased with development of eggs and protection of shipped air cells. For example, there's a wiggly air cell on one egg but the embryo development is still great. I'm building my Brabanter group so will only have shipped eggs to experiment on for a few months. This summer I might switch the setup back to laying the eggs flat when I use only my hens' eggs.
Right. After been married twice, never again, i also found that when you have the money just get it. You may say I'll wait till next month maybe It will be better. Well its never better. Then you may never get it. Should have just gotten it then.
Hi all! I'm new here. A few weeks ago we were gifted a Little Giant Styrofoam incubator with a fan. We have never incubated eggs before, but have saved up a couple dozen from our flock to hatch. Our eggs are all fertile that we check, we have only used them for eating so far, but other than that I have no idea where to start or how to use this incubator!
how old are the eggs? dont keep them too long and how are you storing them....
you need extra thermo/hygros and calibrate them. never go with the one that comes with the bator.
here are notes to this thread.... start at the egg collection section and then head down through
UPDATE:
I have pulled extremely helpful NOTES, LINKS &
InformationalPost Links from this entire thread
for EVERYONE'S convenience and will continue to put them HERE:
First and most important Clean and sterilize your new incubator !! Then turn it on, adjust the temps and humidity and let it run for a week or so and watch the numbers to make sure it holds steady.
