The little boy that was stuck has spraddled legs. So I'm reading about poultry podiatry and making little braces out of VetRap while I wait for him to dry off. Helped the other two a little bit, then stopped again when blood vessels apparent. I'll try again in a couple hours. Last one is certainly dead.

Thanks Chaos,

next planned candle is day 15 when I quit using the egg turner.

I've decided the LG is just way to evil, thinks I don't need to sleep ever lol
My LG doesn't really seem as mean as yours. I have seen short heat spikes, but nothing that went above 102, but then it goes back to 100. I just open the bator for a couple of minutes, then close it back up. Good luck!!!

Could also try wrapping the bator in a blanket but make sure to leave ventilation holes open so it still has ventilation.

True but it might help to keep in more heat than it loses.
They will definitely help stabilize temps by reducing the rate of heat loss, but it won't matter if the temp in the bator never gets about 95F. 93-95 is too low for normal incubation. The chicks will be developing at a far slower rate than what's acceptable. Even .5F can delay hatching by a day or two. How many days will it add if it's 5F or more lower??? I don't think a chick can hatch and be healthy after being cooped up in it's shell for a month. I just don't see it happening...

Yes, the R-Com 20. :/

Zippy Chick is out and declaring her domain over all. The one with the larger hole was clearly still stuck to the membrane (I think it's what folks call shrink-wrapped), so I helped him out - heaven knows how long it had been since he had pipped, it was toward the floor.

For the two malpos that I helped that bled a little (so that I stopped) - both are breathing, cheeping, and beaks are out of the hole. How long should I wait before trying again?

I was so paranoid about opening the incubator during lock down. It didn't occur to me the consequences of not seeing a pip. When I realized some pips were happening underneath, I should have quickly opened the incubator and turned them all upwards, so I could monitor them. So stupid...:he

hey, easy on yourself. You are learning, studying, and doing the best you know. You also won't do it again. Great job with those you are helping!

Ok could I technically put the heating pad in there to help raise it and the heat sink?
Anything you can do to get the temp back up to 100F should be okay. I've heard of people putting heat lamps on their bators to get the temp back up. If the temp isn't going above 95, it's most likely the thermostat has gone bonkers.
