Finally! A green egg is pipped! Three pips and two out. 16 more with no visible progress.
Has anyone actually used gum bands as leg bands? I don't want to make it too tight (obviously) so if anyone has an idea of how many times I need to twist it around...

Probably easier to use velcro or pipe cleaners

I have discovered that if I sit on one end of the couch I an lean over far enough to see but it doesn't for up the bator. But I hear the house chores calling me guess I am not meant to just sit and watch.

For new born I think I did three times. Just keep an eye on it. Couple days later I only wrapped it twice and than last night I undid the second wrap so the band isn't twisted on at all. These are on chicks hatched 1/18

They come in different colors, too; maybe in a craft store, like Michaels?

I wouldn't use pipe cleaners. They may pick the fuzz off of them, and possibly poke an eye out in the process. I use colored zip ties, and replace them as the chicks outgrow them...

I tried the zip tie on a fresh one and couldn't get it to go small enough. Could probably use them now though.

k,course it's not moving

It pips, then lays there absorbing all the blood vessels and the egg yolk, plus it's TIRED. It's resting. It shouldn't move again till it's ready to zip. Up to 24 hours it will just lay there...no movement. Leave it alone.
