On the farm, I use twine from the hay bales -- the "farmer's zipties"
Not as nice looking, but a lot easier to install with gloves on.

I often run into the same problem. I actually really like there zip ties and have a constant supply on hand.

I buy them by the thousands in all sizes...but I'm a mechanic.

Yup! Do both of those things too!
The clips are difficult when they're frozen shut. The twine... Shoot. I us it in the garden, then take it off to use for keeping a door shut or fencing tight.

My runs are the same way. Pound the post in the ground and zip tie the fence to the post.
