Well I just found the one that was left of the four with hurt legs dead.:-(
I'm going with the traditional "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PETE!!!"
I ended up with 16 Serama eggs in the incubator. Slightly staggered, not as bad as I usually do. 13 in last Saturday, two the next day, one the next day....couldn't help it.
@Sally Sunshine Well, the bleedy-butt chick is doing ok. She kicked out of her cup sometime today, and her bottom is now brown and has a rock solid scab on it. She seems to walk a little funny and sleep more, but it could just be the giant wad on her behind! No one is picking the spot, I hope it stays that way, it's not red, so I am hoping.
No more pips still.(DAY 22)![]()
UNHATCHED:

1 CCL

You mean there is someone with more posts per day than Sally Sunshine? WOW!
oh CHWell I just found the one that was left of the four with hurt legs dead.:-(
Sally Sunshine, was just browsing thru BYC and saw the word 'PUPPIES" so I've been hanging around waiting for pictures of the individual pups. I used to breed and show Cockers many years ago, and whelped my own litters. What I mean - is I was too anxious and worried mama would mess up, so did all sac tearing, cord cutting etc. etc. myself.
A friend's cocker had delivered her first litter and in tearing the sacs, bit the leg off of one, and an ear off the other - while friend just sat on couch watching- the jack aspThat freaked me out totally - so I took over whelping my own. Did a lot of tube feeding and other stuff - had whelping pen next to my bed for weeks- checking on pups & mothers.![]()
I had a couple that seemed DOA. I got a drop of whisky on my finger - put in pups mouth. That usually brought them around. If not I roughed them up - not what it sounds like, I mean I briskly rubbed their backs from tail forward to neck to try and get a squeak out of them. I would make each pup squeak when born, made them take in a big gulp of air. and then let mama nose them around. Also with the slow to start ones, I would cradle head and neck with my hands and kinda swing them downward from my shoulder height-to waist , fast - anything to get them to gasp & expel any extra fluid they took in.
Haven't had a litter since 1980 but, reading about your mama giving birth brought it all back.
Of course I also had some stillborns that couldn't be revieved and one mama presented me with one live pup and some torsos with nothing else attached. That was the most gruesome thing I had ever seen. Oh yes, and one outcross breeding gave me 2 husky looking pups with reversed rears ends that the vet put down. I can tell you I had a lot of very
de pressing times dealing with stuff like that and ready to give up dogs often. But once you have bred a few generations you don't want to buy from someone else. Their dogs just don't have the same disposition or conformation you have come to expect. Also breeding your own, you get to keep the very best ones.
Your male is a beauty- hope you do keep him.
Well I just found the one that was left of the four with hurt legs dead.:-(
