This is why vent plugs shouldn't be used to control humidity

How many times do I have to open this can of worms :lau

LY I removed the vent plug long before lock down? Dunno what is going on. Sally did say bcm should be at 30% during incubation and I sort of let it fluctuate to 35-45 during the first 1-18 days.

@Sally Sunshine

See i have a pretty full bator :D

700

Finally some unzipping action! I think I may have a chick before dinner!

I know right!!

Today was productive! Rained though, I hope it didn't flood the run again.

Tomorrow is another HUGE day for us, so i may not be on often.

30 the first 7 days and then adjust as the air cell/weight loss demands changes in humidity. there is a big difference. Its know I always say humidity is NEVER a set number, it has to change as the eggs demand it.
I would candle
You may have big wet chicks, are they mostly marans that remain? I forget if you had several dif breeds in.

Yes the whole batch are marans. Candle them now on day 22? GULP>>> what should I look for? This is my very first hatch btw..:)

Quick question!

Is it okay to take a disinfectant wipe to a heating element and what would you guys suggest for cleaning the top piece of a styrobator since it can't be soaked?

Did not mean to touch on anyone's nerves

However
We all try to get our hatch rates as high as possible and then keep them there.
It jus irks me to think that eggs are developing in a bator
They get larger, and REQUIRE more oxygen, as they grow. Then they are deprived of oxygen/SUFFOCATED because they require SO much more oxygen at that stage than they did before, developmentally.

Chlorox wipes or 10 percent bleach solution with a soft cloth.

There really is usually no need to wipe the element. The manufacturer usually says not to, but if it is unplugged/not energized it won't hurt it, try to keep it away from the ends where the wire goes into the element.

I like to let the suns radiation finish disinfecting it.
