Snow taffy
All you need is clean snow, maple syrup, a candy thermometer and a popsicle stick.
Taffy-Maple-Syrup-on-Snow.jpg
1. Pack clean snow into a pan or wide dish, or just find a good patch outside not too far from your kitchen.

2. In a small pot, bring 1/2 cup of maple syrup to a boil over med-high heat. Put in a candy thermometer, and wait until it reaches 235F.

3. Pour in small streams over snow. It might be easier to put the syrup in a heat proof measuring cup first. Give the syrup 10-15 seconds to solidify a bit on the snow, place a popsicle stick in it and roll the syrup over the stick.

Enjoy this while it's nice and cold. Pea devours hers immediately, but Elle and I savor it, trying to make it last. Sometimes this savoring warms up the taffy, and we just roll it back in snow for that cold sweet kick. This will get messy. Someone will have sticky hands. I recommend pulling your hair back from your face :)

Thanks, sweetie! It's better today (good to rest it yesterday). I ended up having to do those chores, and then later today I went to get the lumber, though all I had the chance to do was unload it. How did you screw up the bread? (I used to screw up bread all the time until I started using an instant read thermometer - should be about 195-200F in the middle. Once I started doing that, no more screw ups.) Or was it something else? I'm so sorry to hear this. It'll be better tomorrow - it has to be!!!!:hugs They had DVDs of episodes of the Carol Burnett Show and Mama's Family at TSC today - I should have gotten them... Well, Paula is inside in a crate (in the room here with me, crate covered and lights down, so she can rest). She got her first dose of SafeGuard. But she's been panting and holding her wings away from her body at times (it's about 72F in here). She's panting so much/fast I can actually hear her. I'm not sure that there is anything I can do at this point - I hope she makes it. I honestly don't know if she will. Dang that chicken characteristic of hiding illness!!! :he - Ant Farm
I sympathize. My favorite is not getting over the ms. Her leg was getting stronger it looked like with the Tylan, but tonight I felt almost like a tumor on her right breast. I wanted to give the sickest one more dose, and tomorrow I will start worming. I am still undecided between 50-100 mg per bird orally of Wazine per my chicken health handbook or the suggested safeguard. I may split off the sickest and give them safeguard. Good Evening everyone!

Snow taffy is the easiest! Boil some maple sugar, pour a strip about an inch wide and eight inches long on clean fresh snow and then roll up on a tongue depressor of Popsicle stick.

Just make sure the snow is packed into a good bed (and not yellow)

I don't make it much, because I always end up eating every bit of it. No leftovers!

Cree, Mohawk, Cherokee,Assiniboine and Dakota Souix. The two rivers that merge here were a major central plains trading area. The Red River runs north from the Missouri area all the way to Hudson Bay to the north, the Assiniboine runs from the north west near the Yukon/ Northwest Territories area to the Red River.
The Metis are the off spring of the original explorers and settlers (mostly French) who married into the tribes.
I am 4th generation Metis , my wife traces her Metis heritage back much further.
Thanks much. I've done a little research on the Souix, particularly the Lakota. I've got just enough Indian blood, way back, to be really po'd at the treatment the Indian nations received at the hands of the whites. To my way of thinking, Custer was a glory hound who got exactly what he deserved. Now I'll have to do some research on the Metis.
