Keep those waffles warm...on my way

Me too I'll even bring my own maple syrup...or blueberry-rhubarb!!!!

Sorry guys, I was too hungry to take the time for waffles - made eggs (heck I only have FOUR DOZEN in the fridge!!!!!!). I'll make waffles tonight or tomorrow... I promise!!!!

Was looking in the 'bator and the fluffed up one was pecking at the new one. Urge to open was unreasonably strong, so I HAD TO WALK AWAY. Went back out and worked more on those paddock fences (giant PIA, BTW). Came back, the fluffy one went to go cheerlead the zip that's not progressing (leaving the second one alone), and a third was zipping its way out. (When I think about the zip that's not progressed since at least 6AM, I keep thinking about aurora dream's crossbeak chick. It's still alive, so it'll make it if it makes it. Maybe I'll help if the rest of the 'bator is cleared of pipped eggs.)

Brooder is ready and waiting, Mama Heating Pad is warm and cuddly. I keep reminding myself that right now, the biggest potential danger to these chicks is ME! So I keep doing chores instead. I might even take a nap!

I went home this morning and none of my eggs had pipped yet. I am so anxious I'm glad I'm not home to stand at the bator.

Yeah, wouldn't want that cute little thing to wrap itself around your little finger now, would you? 5 will get you 10 the chores don't get done today
Or they get done in record time! :lau
Well, after everyone got fed, since my foot was feeling better, I started taking down the hawk-prevention streamers from the old paddocks and taking down the fencing, in preparation for redoing them so the NNs can begin ranging from their new coop (now that they think of it as home). I've really needed to do this for a week or so. I came in for a break, and I had another chick in the 'bator!!! So maybe I'll keep doing stuff outside to ensure more and more chicks show up! :thumbsup (Heaven knows I have enough to do...) It's raining a bit, so I can't do the lumber sanding easily. And I have stuff from work I have to work on as well (avoiding that for the moment). I got a new waffle iron the other day, and have some really good maple syrup - maybe I'll make waffles!!!!!!
SO CUTE!!!! @gotro17 you have a contender... ::::Off to pull out the waffle iron and IGNORE the 'bator:::: - Ant Farm
I have several recipes for waffle irons (too bad idk where mine is!). Biscuits, cinnamon rolls, eggs and brownies in under ten minutes.

:hit :hit :hit x 100 literally Every chick due to hatch today and tomorrow (45)have to be removed from the Bator. The current risk to the others can be mitigated by dipping all the other eggs or fumigating the Bator before they start breathing since hatch is stressful they will ahead ms immediately. The experts fron NC vet school and research facility specializung in poultry have said the locals are wrong. The odds are not small that they have mycoplasma synoviae spread vertically, but will have it worse and spread it Horizontally. Why did no one else I talked to sooner. Now these fully developed chicks have to be killed, and we have to fumigate the Bator or clean with bleach. She is checking with the main research guy on mycoplasma and will get back to us on the best hope for our other eggs. We will also have to keep them separate until they can be tested. I need a good guy or someone to help me cull :( :hit

Good morning everyone!!!!

Look what I found in my incubator this morning - the world's newest little Aloha Naked Neck:

Another one (the one with the original pip) is zipping.

Oh goodness, I have so many people to thank (gets out folded piece of paper and hopes she doesn't get cut off by the orchestra)...

In all seriousness:

First and foremost, @Sally Sunshine for her excellent shipped egg information, such that I'm getting live birds hatching from this mess:

@LocalYokel for patiently helping me figure out the direction I should turn the saddled air cells (with pictures!!!)

@Ur-ur-ur-urrr for helping me stop the too-fast growth of their air cells (along with Sally, of course), and also confirming that the increased humidity was doing its job and to leave it at 50% until hatch

@gotro17 for not only giving me so much hope for my shipped eggs with crazy air cells, but also pointing out that when hatching upright, it's good to alternate spaces in the carton to give the babies a place to "flop" out into (which I totally would not have thought of). This baby is happily moving from empty cup to empty cup. I set them up like this based on your photo/info:

Everyone who has posted info about successful hatches that just run a little late. (For that matter, everyone who has posted anything - I've learned from it all!)

And FINALLY, we circle back to Sally, where I specifically thank her for the first part of her "assisted hatch" article where she puts in big, red, bold letters:

DO NOT RUSH THE HATCH!

(I'm sure I'm forgetting someone, but thank you all!!!!)

I'm off to go look at the cutie again and see how the zipping is going.

WHAT AN ADORABLE CHICK!!!! you take the credit Kristin not I! you did your homework and asked questions! You did all the work! Congrats!! they were such a nasty shipment yukkkkkkssss

Yep - I actually sort of wish it was a work day so I HAD to be away.

Nonetheless, I just caught number three on the way out (missed the first two). Caption should read: "Hatching is HARD." You can see on the shell how crazy the air cell was on this one, I think:

Hello Sally!

I have an update for my current batches of eggs. Of the 8 in the first set, I pulled the one quitter (found day 7 but left it in JIC) but the other 7 are doing great (including the cracked one). Today is day 16 for them (candled yesterday... a day late
he.gif
.)

Of the 33 in the second batch, I pulled one clear. Today is day 9 for them and they got candled yesterday on day 8 (again... a day late
he.gif
.)

Upgrades to the bator this round include:
Better fan placement
Replaced a loud fan
Moved the thermocouple sensor for the thermostat closer to the bulb (reduced the amount of time the light stays on and reduced the amount of temperature fluctuation to about .7*)
Made a baffle to go in front of the main heating bulb to block radiant heat
Installed auto-turner
Reduced the size (surface area) of the pre-lockdown water well to lower humidity during the early part of incubation (Last batch my air cells were too small)

Will be making a coolerbator hatcher in the next day (cutting it a little close but it took forever for my 2nd thermostat to get here)

Ok that concludes my update.

Been awhile since I got to talk to you @Sally Sunshine . I hope you are doing well

Kathy I think if the marker is Alcohol based paint it will evaporate from the shell in the bator, but if the Marker is water basenever thougd paint with the humidity of the bator it can penetrate the shell. I whould put anoter test to see if there is a diferent betwee this 2 brands.
I'll have to check that!

-Kathy
never thought of that, since I only get sharpies lol

I just ordered a wafer thermostat, a computer fan, the adaptor, and a thermo/hydro to start building the stuff for my coolerbator! I hope to have it finished by the EHAL. But, if I don't it isn't a big deal.
