Dustyn came and surprised me and cut two trees down!! AND drum rolllllllll drug to brush pile cut up all of it as well!!!!

You read my mind! I was just wondering if this would help.

I'm going to call the hatchery. Any advice on approaching this? I think the 15 of 19 that died in the first 24 hours at least should be on them. I tend to be too blunt

I think you should send one or more off to necropsy so you will know what they are dying from. I also think that you should verify the status of their NPIP certification. If they are current, then the most likely reason so many died was stress from shipping, dehydration, being too cold or all three. Many people think that all chicks can live without food or water for three days. Often this is true, but even a four day old chick can get severely dehydrated. -Kathy

Yeah just one so far he is a day early but looks like some others might hatch a little later.

A woman in my bachelor degree program for Graphic Arts was an elementary/Jr High teacher. When they put all the teachers to test to see if they actually knew their subjects she passed all the tests except the social interaction test (that is the offical term). When asked what would she do about a habitually rowdy student she said she would call the parents and have a meeting with them. WRONG ANSWER! They wanted her to refer even the smallest problem to the school principle. On that alone they wouldn't give her the right to teach. I would come into class excited to do art and hyped on coffee and bouncing off the walls and babbling and she would say, "Miss Kestner it is time to sit down." I have ADD and sometimes can be hyper when excited. Now she is at least 10 years younger than I am maybe 15. But it didn't piss me off and I said, "Yes maam," and set down and focused on my work. She is a great teacher and they booted her out on bu!!$#1t.

lol you cant clean a chicken if you wash her she will probably unbrood. just trust me on this one, good god they are a mess and stinky as all heck.... makes me puke remmebering a nasty one that blew up under a cochin hen was freaking grosssss

LOL, I know on the egg bound chicken we had, we gave her warm baths and she LOVED them. But, I can totally understand it stopping them from brooding. If it is not raining, I will sneak out there tonight and candle. By Friday definitely!

We had some AWESOME thunder and lightning this morning around 4:30 - 6:00ish. My pup got scared and woke up the entire house. I don't think we've had a good thunder storm in a couple of years. It cleared up in time for everyone to trek to school and work. We're supposed to have another small storm come through on Friday. I'm glad we are finally getting some water!!

I set 6 eggs, brabanters, a couple days ago. Going to candle tonight and see if I have veins. I'm going to be adding six eggs a week a part and try for a staggered hatch. Excited!!!

So I came in for lunch - open faced sandwich. Homemade sourdough bread with the last of the zucchini butter I put up last summer, remnants of chicken pulled off of the bones from fridge leftovers, and some gruyere cheese on top. AMAZING - one of my favorite treats!

I dont bother notching out with a chisel anymore, I just do it with the saw, I am a cheater. But I have made so many gates at this point it goes so much faster even though my dad hollers if he sees me pullin wood sideways through the saw lol
