When you candle, do you start at day 7 or 10? I'm just curious what many people typically do? (I know some are more hands on and candle more frequently while some are more hands off)

Just wanted to see who typically candles when and why do you choose 7 vs 10 and so on? I was planning on candling day 7 for the first time but one of the local ladies that gave me some hatching eggs said she'd wait until day 10 and then again at day 18 before lockdown. (I was already planning on day 18 candling of course but waiting 10 whole days...(sigh!) day 7 is hard enough lol!!)
I usually candle on day 7 - if my air cells look good, I candle on days 15 and 18. If on day 7 my air cells are wonky, I candle days 10, 15 and 18. That is if it's purchased eggs. When it's just my eggs, I candle days 10 and 18.

@Sally Sunshine how about this one for my mug shot entry
Adorable!! I love it!!!

You can use a moist q-tip, paper towel or wash cloth to get the stuff off it's face, but make sure it doesn't get chilled.

Okay. I'm going to give him a little while to get his temp back up in the incubator. He's walking all over the place in there with his "helmet head."  Truly a miracle if this works. You guys are so awesome to help like this. I am in disbelief right now that he/she may actually survive. So I'm guessing that since others have talked about "shrink wrapped", that this was the problem. And then since he had his beak already poking out, he was still able to breathe. Maybe then, the membrane dried out and got hard and rubbery and he just couldn't get out. Who knows? I think it will be a long time before I try incubating again. Way too intense for me at this point.

I think your chick is what people call a "sticky chick".

When you clean the rest of it off, try heating up a towel in the dryer and keep it wrapped in the warm towel while you clean it.

not much dif than a cooler then.... go with a 60's something cfm
thanks, thought I had the box lying around. Gonna have to look up the name and serial code for the fan to find out if it's strong enough. As I put this together, my brain wants corelate it to something I more readily comprehend. That object would be a restrauant grade convection oven. Basic same forced air principal. Insulated. Hinged door. Viewing window.

I nearly forgot..... Sally, here's a day 5 candle image I took. Not the best, but I need another hand or two to get any better when they are in the turners... :p
